I actually agree with this. I'm tired of always hearing it, to be honest. I mean, I'll admit, sometimes, in rap songs, it just gives it this "street" feeling to it. However, I do feel that it's time to move on.

In all honesty how it effects the rap scene is not something i would ponder on, because I do not personally like nor listen to rap., as for freedom of speech. I guess there are always those who will feel it is a freedom of speech thing, others who will feel it isn't, and others who will not sway either way nor give a dam. As with everything..

It may offend some and not others, so banning a word seems pointless. I think of it as a label which has a definate intent and vibe behind it. I dont like the word personally, and I agree with what you say in the last sentence.

You're right, father ted. My childhood in Detroit has as a focal happy point, my time with some friends of the family, who were black. Mama Ruth and her daughter CeCe took care of me for a summer when my mother was out of the state pursuing my deadbeat dad. Those days were some of the happiest of my young life, and it put in me a deep conviction that all people have the same potential for good or bad. I grew up color-blind.

In the late 60's Negro was a fine word to use. Think "United Negro College Fund". Not offensive, is it? Then Black came into style. Then Afro-American, which steals their American-ness from them, and makes them second-class citizens. Affirmative action affirms that they can't achieve to the same degree as white people, so the standard must be lower. (Same with Native Americans, Hispanics, and other minorities) This serves the agenda of the New World Order by keeping the people in this country incapable of uniting against them.

I highly recommend the book "Out of America" by Keith Richburg, A Black American. He labors the point that he is not African-American. He's a little holier-than-thou when it comes to things happening in Africa (darnit i would have been too. some of the stuff that goes on there is outrageous, on a par with what the american soldiers are doing in iraq), but he pinpoints the malaise that afflicts american Blacks. Totally agree with that miss given the history of the word...banning some words lead onto other things OK, not censoring certain ones undermines all the work we do as parents teaching our children. f & shit I can live with when they're part of everyday vocabulary (i don't mean from my child's mouth, she would never repeat them altho she prob hears them every day)...i dont fancy ever hearing a child sing a line that has the words nigger or the c word in it from a rap song when they are the two most derogatory words in my opinion. If they did away with c word next week I wouldn't complain either.

This assumes that all rappers are black, which is definitely a false assumption.
It won't effect the good rappers at all as they will just find another word to rhyme into and use to describe black people. But my problem is if we ban this word, where do we stop. Do we ban shit, piss, ass, fuck etc. A slippery slope we walk when we talk about censorship because the sheeple can't distinguish the difference between censorship and a loss of personal freedom. We have a story in the papers at the moment where nutritionists want to ban pies from the Football because we can't as a consumer see that a pie is fatty and no good for us.
