The image shooting was carried out by the onboard high definition television (HDTV) of the KAGUYA, and it is the world's first high definition image data acquisition of the Moon from an altitude about 100 kilometers away from the Moon.

The image taking was performed twice on October 31. Both were eight-fold speed intermittent shooting (eight minutes is converged to one minute.) The first shooting covered from the northern area of the "Oceanus Procellarum" toward the center of the North Pole, then the second one was from the south to the north on the western side of the "Oceanus Procellarum." The moving image data acquired by the KAGUYA was received at the JAXA Usuda Deep Space Center, and processed by NHK.

An earth set on the moon would be impossible yes, since the same side of the moon is always facing toward the earth... what you would notice is that the earth is spinning, but since the moon is also spinning around the Earth, the Earth would appear to be spinning at a different rate than the 24 hour period that it takes for the earth to spin once in relation to the sun.

I would also like to say that the moon does get sun on all sides and that there is not just one side of the moon which is always in the dark... there is just one side of the moon which cannot be seen from the Earth.... And so there really is no specific "dark side" of the moon, except maybe the inside. Perhaps the inside of the moon is what Pink Floyd were singing about in "DARK SIDE OF THE MOON"

I don't know much about astronomy echept stuff i learned in school and cought myself off books at that time, but it is ages since then.

I have one question though, when we look at all these videos "from moon", all of them show more or less curved surface, but.... isn't earth much too small on all these pictures? Isn't earth too far away? Shouldn't earth be like 2-3 times in size than what we see? It is just my thought, but i never tried to do a calculation myself.

Why do i think of it in that way? When we look at moon from here on earth, it is approx an inch big (maybe a little bit smaller), but when we look at that video, moon surface curve is pretty bend, and i think... eratch should be about double or even tripple size. How much bigger is Earth compared to moon?

I take it you mean the Apollo footage as later you pointed out that you did. The problem with your claim the footage is fake is you appear not to know that it wasnt taken from a spot on the moon. All Earth-rise footage was taken from a moving spacecraft that was orbiting the Moon. Orbiting the Moon would result in an Earth-rise every two hours as the spacecraft emerges from around the backside of the Moon. Same goes for the Japanese footage.


Technically you could experience an Earth-rise while on the surface too, due to liberation. The Earth doesn't stay still in the sky, but rather does a slow figure of 8. At some places on the moon the earth would be seen to dip down below the horizon and then rise again. Of course Apollo never landed at those spots.

If the apparent earth rise /set was because of the effect of the moving camara. Can someone please explain how the earth falls below the horizon much faster that the distant hills as noted towards the end of the movie.

Also the various stills in the article shows no movement of hills.

In addition why does the apparent earth not rotate, as this is speaded up 8 times there would be at least some rotation or noticible movement of the clouds especially between alleged rise/set.

i know this is a little off topic but do you not find it hard to believe that just by chance the moon is just the right size and distance from the earth to cause a perfect eclipse.
I think the moon was formed from a piece of the earth that broke away from a meteor hit back when earth was an infant, it just staggers me that its landed in the most perfect position like it was put there by some higher being for us earthlings to ponder years later to see the moon pass so sweetly over the sun.

The Earth's distance from the Sun is about 400 times the Moon's distance from the Earth. The Sun's diameter is about 400 times the diameter of the Moon. Because these ratios are approximately the same, the sizes of the Sun and the Moon as seen from Earth appear to be approximately the same about 0.5 degree of arc in angular measure. The Moon is slowly getting further away from Earth so we just happen to be living at a time when it appears the same size as the Sun.

Some fascinating facts I've read about the moon that I would like to share from info presented by William Neil, author of 'How We Were Made'.
Moon diameter =2160 statute miles
At its nearest, surface of moon to surface of earth =216000 miles
Measurement around moons equater = 21600 nautical miles

Lots of other numbers are used to describe the more complicated measurements associated with the moon and its relationship with the earth. Too complicated for me to explain at the moment as I am still reading and learning. If it's true and accurate, I find it absolutely amazing since it can also be associated with the measurement of time. In particular the Mayan calander.
