View Full Version : Horrifying -Man Has Tree Limbs Growing Out Of Body

I've heard about this guy years ago, and been thinking alot about him, how hard his life must be. Let's hope this will help him. The videos can be watched at the link on the bottom of article.
Tree man 'who grew roots' may be cured
An Indonesian fisherman who feared that he would be killed by tree-like growths covering his body has been given hope of recovery by an American doctor - and Vitamin A.
# Update: Tree man says he wants to live to see grandchildren
# Telegraph TV: Dede talks about his extraordinary affliction
# Telegraph TV: Dr Anthony Gaspari examines Dede's lesions
Dede, now 35, baffled medical experts when warty "roots" began growing out of his arms and feet after he cut his knee in a teenage accident.
http://img03.picoodle.com/img/img03/5/11/15/f_w3am_257079e.jpg
Watch: Dr Anthony Gaspari believes that he has diagnosed Dede's rare condition
The welts spread across his body unchecked and soon he was left unable to carry out everyday household tasks.
Sacked from his job and deserted by his wife, Dede has been raising his two children - now in their late teens - in poverty, resigned to the fact that local doctors had no cure for his condition.
To make ends meet he even joined a local "freak show", parading in front of a paying audience alongside victims of other peculiar diseases.

# How About That: More bizarre news stories from around the world
Although supported by his extended family, he was often a target of abuse and ridicule in his rural fishing village.
But now an American dermatology expert who flew out to Dede's home village south of the capital Jakarta claims to have identified his condition, and proposed a treatment that could transform his life.
After testing samples of the lesions and Dede's blood, Dr Anthony Gaspari of the University of Maryland concluded that his affliction is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a fairly common infection that usually causes small warts to develop on sufferers.
http://img01.picoodle.com/img/img01/5/11/15/f_w2am_5eea9ac.jpg
Watch: The growths on Dede's arms and feet are known as 'cutaneous horns'
Dede's problem is that he has a rare genetic fault that impedes his immune system, meaning his body is unable to contain the warts.
The virus was therefore able to "hijack the cellular machinery of his skin cells", ordering them to produce massive amounts of the substance that caused the tree-like growths known as "cutaneous horns" on his hands and feet.
Dede's counts of a key type of white blood cell are so low that Dr Gaspari initially suspected he may have the Aids virus.
But tests showed he did not, and it became clear that Dede's immune condition was something far rarer and more mysterious.
Warts aside, he had enjoyed remarkable good health throughout his life - which would not be expected of someone with a suppressed immune system - and neither his parents nor his siblings have shown signs of developing lesions.
"The likelihood of having his deficiency is less than one in a million," Dr Gaspari told the Telegraph.
Dr Gaspari, who became involved in the case through a Discovery Channel documentary, believes that Dede's condition can be largely cleared up by a daily doses of a synthetic form of Vitamin A, which has been shown to arrest the growth of warts in severe cases of HPV.
http://img28.picoodle.com/img/img28/5/11/15/f_w1am_7da1b1b.jpg
Watch: Dede with his teenage daughter. He fears that his children may also become infected
"He won't have a perfectly normal body but the warts should reduce in size to the point where he could use his hands," Dr Gaspari said.
"Over the course of three to six months the warts should be come smaller and fewer in number. He will be living a more normal life."
The most resilient warts could then be frozen off and the growths on his hands and feet surgically removed.
Dr Gaspari hopes to get the necessary drugs free of charge from pharmaceutical firms. They would then be administered by Indonesian doctors under his supervision.
Still intrigued by the origins of Dede's peculiar immune condition, the doctor would like to fly him to the United States for further examination, but fears the financial and bureaucratic barriers would prove too difficult to overcome.
"I would like to bring him to the US to run tests on where his immune condition has come from, but I would need funding and to get him a visa as well as someone to cover the costs of the tests," he said.
"I've never seen anything like this in my entire career."
# "Half Man Half Tree", part of the "My Shocking Story" series, will be shown on the Discovery Channel at 9pm on Nov 15. For more details visit the programme's website.

I would certainly never visit a freak show and i don't understand the attraction of them.
But then again freak shows are not all as bad as that. Some of the performers do quite well, manage themselves and even gain some repectability.

The guy sounds like a dick, I don't have any sympathy..
I reckon you have to work pretty hard to get that fucked up.
He needs pruning.
What, do they not have scissors and cleaning spirit in Indonesia?
He could have used gasolene or even fire to clean and cauterise the wounds after removing the dead skin.
Stupidity tends to furnish its own punishment.

The family of 95-year-old Zhao from Zhanjiang city, China are hoping that doctors will be able to explain the 5 inch horn that is growing out of her forehead. Local media describes the horn as curving down "like the stalk of a pumpkin".
The mysterious growth started three years ago. "At first, it was only a mole, but it gradually grew and became like a horn. It causes me no discomfort, but blocks part of my view," said Zhao.

Yes, he was forced into it through circumstances which is very undignified.
Yet again, in the 1920's when the freak shows were closed down in Europe and the seaside resorts of the United States, the performers opposed it. They had become quite proud of their unique, novelty attractions. They were in a very different position from the man who's the subject of this thread. These were successful entrpreneurs who managed thier own act and built up a good business.

Contrary to what most people might think, both the male and female performers at freak shows enjoyed active and eviable sex lives. Many people in the repressive, prudish atmosphere of Victorian times had a fetish for the "freaks", both men and women.

They need blood to keep their form.
Their blood lust is in dire need of more blood, especially at the aligning of the light in the heavens that is going on. Their getting exposed!

So... Why is it good?
Don't answer - it's a rhetorical question.
Just because he doesn't fit in, doesn't mean he should be under any pressure to be cured. Maybe he enjoyed being different and perhaps he saw himself as being connected to the nature spirit in a special way because of it. At first he didn't want help but then he received it. I'm sure he received some sort of special compensations to be subject to rigorous tests for months upon months by doctors trying to get another notch in their medical belt.
Some may have even considered this 'sickness' a gift and blessing.
Symptoms of the sequentializing times when anyone that is different has to be cured to fit in.
Or maybe he just wanted to be able to hold a fork.

too late i'm answering
if you watch all his vids you will find that he found life difficult. at least thats what i gathered from it. he talked about how it was difficult for him to perform simple functions. it was hard for his family and hard for him, why shouldn't i think it's good that he's getting help if that's what he wants. i don't think that anyone forced him to get help.
geez...c'mon.
as for my post being symptons of the sequentializing times when anyone that is different has to be cured to fit in...
please... my little sister has down syndrome and i love her just the way she is. but she couldn't walk properly when she was a child and had to have ankle braces so she could have stronger ankles, i wouldn't have denied her that just because she may have wanted not to walk and felt closer to the floor or ground...seriously.

Really you guys.......is it necessary to poke fun for something that is out of someones control.
How would you like something like this covering 80% of your body? No wonder people suffering from unsightly diseases or disfigurements hide away or live like hermits.
Imagine having it in you late teens and early 20's. Do you know what it feels like to be ripped off by your peers? I do!
Show some human empathy!
Oh, do hush your rattling! He's not posting in the thread, ya know? And I doubt he would have much use for a wi-fi connection, anyhoo.

Unfortunately many people suffer from disfiguring afflictions and ailments. I bet they are chuffed knowing that there are people that make fun of them behind their backs.

Are you one of these people who think only disfigured people should be allowed to tell jokes about those with said disfigurements? Or would you prefer to put a stop to it altogether? Well, tough. We don't live in My Little Pony world, in case you hadn't noticed.

Not sure what you were meaning but here goes.
We do not always have a choice in what happens to us. Some people are born perfect and beautiful, others not. Some will at some time in their lives be inflicted by some type of disfiguring ailment or accident. We have to learn to live with that.
When someone speaks without considering what effect their words have on others that is just callous and cruel. The result could be devastating to the persons involved and others that know that they could have been the target.
Are you not trying to find the truth about our reality and why we are here?
Do you think that hurting innocent people who have no choice in their infliction will help in any way? Do you like hurting people? Does it make you feel good? Do you always judge a book by its cover?
I do not think that you are that evil...........Think of the impact of your words on others before you blab it out.

Fair point, but the guy works in a freak show, he makes money from people pointing and saying WTF. A previous poster pointed out he was offered money/ops to fix his condition but he chose not to. He would make far more money from being a "Tree-man". So I don't think any tree man jokes are going to effect him in the long run, other than gaining more publicity for his career in show-biz.
