Hi
I'm 24 now, and still get zits on my face. I will go through what I've observed as a two month cycle, where I can have nearly no spots, to having a real horrible break out all over my face, with pussy red pimples. Most of the time I have at least 5 or six on my face.
When I go to the doctors all they offer me is Oxytetracycline, which I've tried in the past, and does work, but I dont wish to be anti-biotics all my life. Plus creams, but again, they are antibiotic and I dont like the idea of perminantly being on antibiotics.
Why does this persist? I've tried cutting out milk and cheese but that doesnt work.
I just want to get rid of them forever.
Thanks.

Do you smoke? Eat a lot of junk? Is your skin naturally quite greasy?
Does it happen more often just after you've shaved? (i'm presuming you're a male!)

Yea I smoke, but I dont eat junk. If i'm smoking it's usually weed.
I try to eat lots of veg, and organic.
Try cutting down on the cigarettes for starters, they don't help.
Also try the following foods:
1. Sweet potatoes
This side item includes more Vitamin A, which helps to prevent breakouts for those with acne.
2. Oranges
This delicious fruit includes more Vitamin C, which helps the body fight infections and disease.
3. Green Tea
This drink includes more antioxidants, which can help protect cells from causing Cancer. Green Tea also improves the Immune system.
4. Broccoli
This vegetable contains Vitamin A,C, and K. Vitamin A decreases oil production, Vitamin C is an antioxidant which can also prevent cancer, and Vitamin K which helps to prevent bruises.
5. Salmon
This fish is high in healthy fatty acids, such as Omega-3. Omega-3 is a key to achieving healthy skin.
6. Water
Drinking 7-8 glasses of water helps to stay looking young and healthy. It helps clean out your Immune system and keeps you hydrated.
7. Peanut Butter
This tasty product contains Vitamin B, which releases energy from food for skin metabolism.
8. Yogurt
Yogurt helps to kill bad bacteria that can cause acne and other skin-related problems.
9. Cottage Cheese
This product contains Calcium, which is good for the bones. Cottage cheese also contains Selenium which may protect you from Skin Cancer. It may also help to diminish dandruff.
10. Seafood
Seafood contains Omega-3 fatty acids and Zinc. It helps to promote smooth, clear, and glowing skin. By eating seafood, you can also reduce dryness and inflammation. Seafood can also keep your heart's arteries clear.
Also cleanse and moisturize daily and if you can get some privacy (your bloke friends might call it gay!) use a face mask once a week.

Ta very much.
I've been told before that diet has a lot to do with spots.
Mosturising is a problem also, as most moisurisers are oil based, and leave my skin even more greasy.
Also, I think there must be more to it than just diet. I eat healthily, and love most of the foods you listed.
I have friends who eat total shit constantly, yet not a single spot.
I can't help but think that there is much more to it, at least other significant factors involved than just diet.
Someone once mentioned to me about Candida. Could that be involved??

You might like to consider upping your immune performance. (www.naturopharma.com) Oily skin can be a problem, as well as keep touching the spots with your fingers (infection).
Our diet is much too rich in Sugars, fats and dairy. The liver has to off load all the junk from time to time and the skin is its first choice to dump it.
Plenty of water, sleep and excercise. Remember walking is one of the best things for detoxing the liver, the gym can make the body toxic. A couple of years ago a team that I'm familiar with took a blood sample from a candidate before they went into the gym and one after. The blood taken after showed a dramatically lowered immune system if I remember correctly. I am not saying you go to the gym, but as soon as the immune system drops the spots return. Zinc can be useful too.
We often take a swab from a spot and send it to the lab. This costs about £45.00. approx. but it is a good strategy for us because we need to know what we are dealing with. If you want to go this route then we can arrange for a kit to be sent to you, and forward your results to you, maybe with an opinion. Call 01983 617333

Hi Mike,
Thanks so much for your reply.
The route you suggested - getting my spot samples tested does seem like the most logical route in order to get this sorted.
Will the test conclusively determine the cause of my spots??

There is a BIG link between candida and acne, basically candida is a pain in everyones arse to an extent, and if you have acne, theres a good chance its presence is being expressed via your skin.
Which means, pro-biotics will help you, good quality ones like those that naturo pharma sell, and i would recommend although cannot offically speaking haha, coming off the anti-biotics, because that gives candida a free for all in your body. Improving your diet if you feel you need too to avoid many of the crap 'foods' will also help. :)

To be fair, I'm the same as you. I smoke a little and I enjoy most of the foods listed above. But I'm also guilty of eating junk food and drinking lager a fair amount (8-10 pints a week).
I also train twice a week and play football on Sunday and I'm very active in other walks of life.
And I have fairly oily skin.
I'm 27 and still get spots from time to time, most notably the day after I shave. But since I'm not particularly bad I've never really let it bother me and haven't thought much about it in a while. But when I did quit smoking for about 18months a few years ago I did notice a change very quickly.
I'm guessing caffeine intake isn't particularly good for your skin either, so if you drink a lot of coffee/carbonated drinks I'd consider cutting that down too.
I also think a lot of it is to do with your mental state. I seem to get more spots than usual when I'm stressed out or worried about something.

Im no expert like mike, but stress increases the bodies acidity, and candida thrive in acidic environments, so the two appear to go together, but take this information with a pinch of salt, im no professional. :)
Candida in a generally healthy person is quite normal as far as i know?

I was only suggesting maybe candida peeks during a stressful period in yourself, and then dies away when you're calmer, as the environment becomes less favourable. Purely hypothesizing with little information to go from, as i said, please take my comment with a pinch of salt, im not a qualified health practitioner. :)

Try MSM , not to be confused with MMS.
Methylsulfonylmethane - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is sulphur replacement and helps the body detox process. I had a friend who had chronic acne, cleared up after 2 weeks of MSM.

Funnily enough, MSM is supposed to be good at killing candida, maybe another coincidence, or not. :p :)

We do this for a couple of reasons one being to identify whether there is infection that might be coming from the outside in, and to get a marker for natural flora overgrowth. Inside out.
This gives us an indicator as to what we are dealing with, and in some cases leads us to a solution.
So, the answer to your question is, until we know what we are dealing with, it is hard to say.

I've become addicted to scraping away at ingrown hairs with tweezers & despite the odd momentous occasion when I pull out a big fat slug or 'underlying' problem, my skin has turned into a mine-field. Honestly, I don't know wot people think when they see my face - maybe that I've been in a fight or something!? Probably scarred my own face, but I get so fustrated when I can feel all the red lumps after I've tried everything I can think of & learned (like heating/exfoliating the face before shaving, etc.).
But can anyone tell me if it's ok to pull out ingrown hairs & there's a point of knowing when it gets excessive? For instance, I think I'm supposed to just pull the hairs loose but not pull them out completely. Is it ok to dig around for any hairs you can see under skin or just ones that look close to surface? I didn't want 2 just ask questions in this forum but hopefully I've offered sum food for thought!
I've also been recently using Body Shop products like Tea Tree (trying to go natural), but I'm not sure this has made much improvement. I heard that they recently got bought by Loreal?? Apparently they test on animals & have something to do with Israel, shud be avoided, etc..
Sorry to go on about it.. but I'm 28, bald, short, oily & hairy but I don't think I'm ugly lol! Just wish I could elimante at least one of these things!!!!!

If there's anyone thinkin 'well how do you treat oily skin with more oil?' like myself, I've read that certain oils can work. Prob just ones like Lavender & Tea Tree though..
Oh shit! Forgot to mention ALOE VERA. Trust me, you need the purest kind you can find! Also good for burns, rashes, etc.

Perhaps you have an allergy to something. Allergies develop very quickly and I've recently started cutting out dairy products from my diet especially milk.
Perhaps you could cut out dairy and carbs like bread and potatoes from your diet and see if there is any improvement. Cut out sweets as well.
A diet high in carbs is know to cause many ailments and acne is one of them.
Good luck.

i have found grease lighting from Lush works really well on spots and it is the only spot treatment that does actually work. I've tried em all.
plus diet is important.
I don't get any money or do not work for Lush i just like the product and find it works on my spots really well.

You might also be allergic to your tap water if it has high levels of flouride in it or has a high acidic level.
My daughter is totally allergic to the tap water she comes out in a rash if she washes her face in tap water or drinks it. and we use an osmosis water filter to drink and cook with and wash our faces and brush our teeth.
Seaweed is great for washing face i mean seaweed soaps etc.
Might also be worth looking at your hormone levels.

I never had a blemish until I was 28; not even during adolescence. PERFECT skin. Now my skin is a mess. I can't go out without makeup. The NHS offered me laser treatment, but I don't trust their ability, so I shall continue to make MAC Cosmetics huge profits. If yours is hormonal, as I suspect mine is, antibiotics are not going to make one iota of difference. I tell you what does help, though, Sudocrem for nappy rash lol. I use that at night, then use a Tea Tree oil facial wash in the morning and then a moisturiser. When at home I don't wear makeup, and I always eat organic, so there's no reason my face turned into a Hallowe'en mask. :(

How about stopping shaving & using a trimmer instead. If using a razor ruins your skin, why on earth would you continue to ruin it?.
I only used a razor once in my life to realise it ruined my skin (acne/razor bumps/huge pores etc). Now I just use a trimmer on a low grade (cure).

Hi there
please please please!! do not dig at your skin with tweezers to remove stuff. Take it from someone who knows, while you are young you will think the damage heals and you 'got something out' so it gets better. As you age, these small wounds and scars don't go away, in fact they come back to haunt you as your skin ages. This is a long story but i'm going to tell it to try and save anyone from the damage I have done to myself!
In 1981, I was abused by an uncle over a period of a year or so while he lived with me and mum and step dad. I was 7. As a means of survival, i blocked most of it from my memory, but never actually forgot that it happened. when I was 21, due to a family breakdown, my mum said he was going to come back and live with us for a while. Well, i had a total meltdown and my boyfriend at the tme, who i had told about the abuse, helped me to tell my mum about it. This was like a stick of dynamite in the family, my mum and dad standing by me but the rest of the family saying I made it up etc. Around the same time, i developed a habit of locking myself in the bathroom, and picking, squeezing and digging at any slight imperfection in my skin. As it happens, at the time of telling my mum, i was not strong enough to follow the abuse up with the police, just relieved to have told her and be free of him at family visits etc. Over the next 15 years, i continued to pick away at my skin, causing big dents, staph infections, scabs and sores - sometimes my skin was so bad i couldnt cover the damage with make up as the sores crusted and bled, and i couldnt go to work or even to the local shop because i feared everyone was looking at my imperfections and judging me. a few years ago, i moved in with my current partner, and it became apparent to him that i was having these little bathroom surgery sessions - he was devastated by what i was doing but still that didnt stop me - he even used to lock the bathroom door and i had to ask for the key! Then a few years back one of my cousins arranged to meet me and told me the same uncle abused her too, but for longer (my family is mostly irish, and she lives there). I implored her to tell her dad but she wouldn't, too scared, and we had a argument, as i felt she was saddling me with her guilt and also didnt stick up for me when i first told about the abuse. Anyhow, i did tell my mum what happened (she had moved back to ireland by this time). Over a year or so, my mum met with my cousin a lot, and gently gently coaxed her to admit that stuff had gone on. This again caused a massive upset in the family, with most of them acusing me and my mum of stirring stuff up. By this time I was beside myself with grief - grief for what happened, for how I had disfigured myself over the years which I now know, after some CBT sessions with a therapist, was all related to the abuse.
So I went to the doctors and poured this all out. He arranged for me to see a therapist for what they call Short Intervention Therapy. It transpired that my need to pick was hand in hand with the need to 'get something out' the relief i would feel after pulling out small hard white lumps (hair follicles we thought) was similar to relief felt when telling about the abuse. And because I had not got proper closure on the abuse by not following it up with authorities, i was seeking this feeling by picking. So we agreed that I would try and speak to the Police and see how far i could go with getting some closure. At this time, my Grandma passed away in ireland, and I decided i would go bak for the funeral - We had protected my grandma from any of this story, now she was gone, I also felt I could push the matter with the family, and ask them about why they disbelieved me, and my cousin - I also knew I would come face to face with the uncle, which i dreaded but i wasn't going to let guilt keep me from the funeral.
Well, what a day that was - we got to the church and i was constantly looking around, wondering where he was. We went in and sat in a pew, i was on the end next to the aisle. Can you believe it, he came in and SAT NEXT TO ME, making me move along, while everyone was looking. Obviously, we are in a catholic church at a BIG funeral, how could I do anything? I couldn't believe he had done that, almost like abuse again! He got up and left just as the funeral was ending, aand i was in shock - couldnt cry or speak - anyway my mum assured me he wasnt coming to the wake, she had requested that and the family had agreed. so we went. But there he was - you could have cut the atmosphere in the room with a knife... I spoke to my step dad, and he gave me his car keys and I said i was going to quietly sneak off, couldnt bear the atmosphere or to breath the same air as him. I got outside to find a car had blocked my dads car in - his car. So I walked back to mums, a good 5 miles, but i needed the walk to clear my head, didnt want my dad to have to confront him in front of the family I knew it would blow up and didnt want to be blamed for ruining my Grans funeral (lol!)
well, it kicked off anyway, and my mum and da arrived back at the house a few hours later after a big row and fight etc. We all talked and argued ourselves, and eventually went to bed. Later that night, the dogs started barking furiously and aggressively, like i hadnt heard before, and we got up and looked out of the windows - who was there, but him - aparently leaving a bag of my nan's things from the nursing home on the step (REALLLY LONG STORY) at 4 in the morning? and why him? anyway.... This event made me take the matter to the police, as i could prove some sort of threatening behaviour from him. I resolved that as soon as i was back in england I would take the matter to the police - he lived in england now, as did I, and england was where the abuse happened.
Well, I cannot tell you how wonderful the Police were. Yes, I had to go through interviews, statements, awful time - over the years, although i blocked out most of the happenings, there were three events I could remember crystal clear, one invloving a sheet that was stained with semen and that I hid - i told this story to my mum, and she went white - she remembered FINDING the sheet in the airing cupboard! (I had hidden it (not very well lol) because i was ashamed and thought i would get into trouble).
So she was interviewed as well. To my disbelief, the CPS decided there was a case to answer, and the police went to arrest him. Unfortunately, he had left england two days before with his wife, who is head of some finance dept at American Express in brighton, but had been moved overseas to Singapore. The police advised me that extradition would be a long drawn out process, and it was better to just have his details with interpol, so that if he even got a traffic violation in singapore, he would be picked up by the police due to the info on file, or if he decided to fly back to uk or ireland he would be picked up and arrested. I didnt belive this and thought all was lost anyway about 4 months later, my police lady phoned me to say he had been arrested on the plane at gatwick and was in custody!! hooray!!
So, after more interviews etc, he was charged with three counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and one of rape, and eventually admitted it - only after one of my other uncles (who is a policeman funnily enough) met with him and got him to admit it to him. He then went to the station and told the police he had admitted it to him.
Eventually the case went to court and he was sentenced to a years suspended sentence and to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.
Although he didnt get a custodial sentence, the massive relief i felt by having 'got him' on record was unbelievable. I'm not going to say this cured my picking or Neurotic Excoriation with PTSD which is how i was diagnosed by the psychologist completely, but it definately helped.
What I'm trying to say is that, are there any underlying emotional causes to your picking... Do you pick at small insignificant blemishes that only you can see close up in a mirror? do you feel a relief when you've got something out? this is something called Reward Pathways, where you get used to the feeling of relief after say, a picking session.
Anyway. Just don't pick! I have scars and dents and lumps on my poor face from the years of damage i did - these are getting more obvious as I age - believing I had bad skin, when actually i was causing it myself, overusing 100's of products and obsessively washing my face in attempt to clear it up - I now hardly pick at all, as I managed to use the CBT techniques to control my urge to wash pick or dig. In fact, I now only wash my face during my daily shower with a budget supermarket exfoliant and use the only wondercream that worked on the scars, (Skin Doctors Gamma Hydroxy) believe me i tried evrything on my spots, even expensive creams from the US.
Please please think about what you are doing to yourself! I thought i was the only one who did it in the world, then with access to the internet when i was about 27, i discovered it was a disorder.
I hope i haven't bored you but really want to save you from feeling like i do when i see my skin.
Also, i find eating peanut butter makes me break out in painful little spots on my jawline, and also eating cheese and onion crisps!

You have the same skin as me (No defensive layer). You need to kill the razor & let your skin regenerate. Exercising increases regeneration by around 75%. And good diet, plenty of water, vitamin & minerals etc.
Look out for a performance trimmer, ideal for trimming beards, goatees, necklines, sideburns and body hair. Keep the attachment clean. You shouldn't get them nasty razor symptoms.

Cut out all wheat, processed food and dairy. Do not use oil to cook, if I eat chips i can feel the grease coming out of my pours so I dont eat them.
You should see an improvement at the same time eat foods with good fats, hemp oil has made my skin glow.

[QUOTE=gaag;1059337730] You need to get yourself a violet wand excellent for skin care. They realy do get rid of spots etc..... Regards jj
diet has not been shown to increase incidence of p.acnes bacteria. If you are prone to acnes from a genetic standpoint, you cannot prevent it, you can only manage it. There will be times when it is worse than others. Advocating a no dairy diet or vast consumption of green tea will only serve to frustrate you. I would suggest drinking more water, taking regular exercise and no more smoking. Anything else is a waste of time.

Changing your diet can absolutely help. Back when I ate lots of animal products and processed foods I had really oily skin with lots of acne. Since I gave all that up and went vegan the oilyness is completely gone and I hardly ever get a zit now.

If I drink milk or eat pizza, I will get spots, practically guaranteed.
Candida can cause acne, candida can be caused by diet. There is absolutely a acne/diet connection.
My skin condition is directly related to my diet, I only believe this because of my own experience, diet/lifestyle changes are the only thing that's cleared my skin, I tried everything under the sun.
Eventually I stopped listening to the doctors (who said diet was no relation to acne) and started listening to my body.
I went on a strict anti candida diet for months. With probiotics, digestive enzymes, colon cleanses etc.
Tough going avoiding yeast, and especially since the candida had caused many other intolerances so I had to avoid a lot of other things too.
But it was absolutely worth it, made me feel great.
I initially began the diet thinking I was going to get rid of the candida then I could go back to how I was. It was about 6 weeks into it I realised I could never go back to how I was eating/drinking if I wanted to stay healthy, happy and clear.
I still get spots, but not like I used to and I believe only because I'm not strict with the diet anymore.
I still eat well but do indulge now and again, yoghurt is almost guaranteed to make me get spots on my back, but every now and then I can't help myself buying a big pint pot of it.
Going to start making my own dairy free yoghurt.
You should see a nutritionist and get tested for candida and allergies. Then take it from there.
Also an effective topical treatment is benzoyl peroxide, applied liberally twice daily this will greatly clear your skin. But most of the brands for sale contain harmful chemicals like sodium lauryl sulfate that are really bad for your skin (and everything else). The best brand (and only one I would use) is this http://www.danielkern.com/category-s/22.htm
Good luck.
we cannot underestimate placebo but rest assured there is no scientific evidence to support these dietary claims other than their own experience which may or may not be accurate.

Some good advice...but..
Seafood, fish, peanut butter, cottage cheese, yogurt, I would completely cut out, for a start most fish contains high levels of mercury, and yogurt and cottage cheese are dairy, which is known to inflame spots. You say cottage cheese contains calcium which is good for the bones?I think you are mis-informed, that is old thinking, you do not need dairy for calcium, green leafy veges are a start with regards to calcium. Cottage cheese (dairy products) actually leach calcium from the bones...cottage cheese is acidic, and acidity leaches calcium from the bones.
Peanut butter..you would be horrified if you knew why you should not consume this product, for a start most peanuts are GM's and is probably one of the worst things you could put into your body, unless of course, you make your own nut butters, but NOT the peanut variety, almonds, brazil nuts, cashew nuts etc..are far better.
Basically it seems the OP is too acidic, there are many sites on here regarding the alkaline/acidity subject and how it is SO important for the body's good health.
Another great thing would be to get a course of colonics, it does wonders for the skin!
My 2 cents :)

hey there. ok true story. i used to have a wart on my toe, which i jus ignored, but then over the years more showed up on the same toe, and i used to be very embarrased about anybody seeing my feet. i bought a kit you use to freeze them off, but i couldnt go thru with it because i was scared it would hurt. then i watched 'the secret' and thought id try using my positive will power to get rid of them, so evrytime i had a bath, i would stare at my toe and ask the universe to make my toe clean and healthy. and in a couple of weeks they started shrinking untill they were just completly gone! try it everytime u wake up and look in a mirror, see yourself as beautiful, and sure enough u WILL see results my friend!

Right not being funny, but, all of you banging on about milk being bad for the skin, can you calm it down a little?
I've suffered with acne for years but the past year I've been ALMOST almost free of them on my face, and this is all down to this:-
Bowl of fruit and fibre with added organic muesli plus 2 scoops of various Linwood's toppings (strongly suggest buying a pack of this 'miracle food') for breakfast.
A bag of various fruit e.g. 2 babanas 2 oranges and 2 apples and say, a cheese salad butty? all for dinner.
For tea I could have either different types of chicken, waffles etc or have a bowl of oatmeal porridge with honey, followed by 4-5 cups of red bush tea.
My skin now is absolutely fine, I feel fine and more chirpy because of it. However I still get spots on my shoulders and have a mild form of psoriasis on my head. Anyone who has advice on how to get rid of these is much appreciated!

Some here say dairy is bad, but I've heard youghort is good. Both eaten and as a face cream or face mask.
youghort acne - Google Search
Also coconut is good for your your skin. Eaten daily, either organic coconut oil or flakes or hole coconut.
Lots of water and take good quality vit-C daily [non aspartame].

Dr Mercola video on good probiotics. Kinda cancels my previous post, but I would still go for commercial, non sweetened youghort, if nothing else is available. Immediately. And then start combing farmers' markets etc.

i think iodine works for warts, spots, dodgy patches of skin, skin cancer etc. dont get it in your eyes!

I totally agree, if there's a lot of Icke readers on here, then they'll know they create their own reality and the more you don't want something and keep it in your vibration, the more the Universe/Life hands it to you.
I've got seriously bad acne, I've had it for 5 years now, tried everything under the Sun, no meat, no wheat, no dairy, just plain old rice, potatoes, fruit and veg, I did that for half a year, while I did feel slightly better and noticed my skin clear up. It still didn't make much of a difference, because just as I'd see them all clear up, a massive break-out would occur a few days after.
Now I'm back on the meat, wheat and dairy and all the rest, and my skin is still the same, I have bowel movements everyday and I drink enough water when I need to.
Along with positivity and raising your vibration, someone mentioned about a link between acne and candida and I'd say it's 100%, I see acne like a cancer of the face. When your blood gets real sticky, surely it must clog up and turn into bad cells, then inflame on your face/back etc. and turn into spots.
The last thing I really want to try is a Bi-carbonate of soda solution, to see if it alkalizes my body enough to get rid of my acne.
Oh and another thing, someone on here suggested using 3/6% peroxide and I tell you, that stuff burns your spots and ulcers away, it's brilliant, just doesn't stop them breaking out as much.
Everyone is different, diets, methods etc. all work for different people, most diet methods haven't worked for me, especially the vegan diet and cancelling out every possible food to eat, your belief and thought patterns play a massive role and I'm determined to apply that to getting rid of my acne.
