Historians and British schoolchildren remember Guy Fawkes as the Roman Catholic, anti-Protestant rebel who on Nov. 5, 1605, tried to assassinate King James I by blowing up the Parliament. Supporters of the Republican primary campaign of the libertarian Representative Ron Paul may remember Fawkes as a wildly successful fund-raising gimmick.

On Monday, a group of Paul supporters helped raised more than $4.07 million in one day — approaching what the campaign raised in the entire last quarter — through a Web site called ThisNovember5th.com, a reference to the day the British commemorate the thwarted bombing.

Many fans of Mr. Paul know of the day primarily through a movie based on the futuristic graphic novel “V for Vendetta,” by Alan Moore and David Lloyd, in which a terrorist modeled after Fawkes battles a fascist government that has taken over Britain.

The Paul campaign has raised more than $6.84 million in the first five weeks of this quarter, more than the $5 million it raised from July 1 to Oct. 1. Many of the contributions appeared to come through the independent Fawkes effort, but how much was unclear.

On Monday alone, the campaign signed up more than 21,000 new donors, said Jesse Benton, a campaign spokesman.

Among 2008 presidential candidates, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York holds the record for raising the most in a single day: $6.2 million on June 30. But Mr. Paul has surpassed the best day of Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, who raised $3.14 million on Jan. 8.

ThisNovember5th.com includes video clips and the text of a speech by Mr. Paul, a 10-term Texas congressman. In it, Mr. Paul declares, “The true patriot challenges the state when the state embarks on enhancing its power at the expense of the individual.”

Mr. Paul has stood out from the Republican field for his opposition to the war in Iraq. In the speech he argues that the fight against terrorism is threatening American democracy.

“The American Republic is in remnant status,” he says. “The stage is set for our country eventually devolving into military dictatorship, and few seem to care.”

Mr. Benton clarified that Mr. Paul did not support blowing up government buildings. “He wants to demolish things like the Department of Education,” Mr. Benton said, “but we can do that very peacefully, in a constructive manner.”

Who said they wanted him to control anyone? He is running on a position of less government control so no one is voting for him looking to have him control anything. What they are looking for is someone who will undo what has been done and someone who will say what hasn't been said but needs to be said.

Power most always corrupts. Stop waiting for someone else to change your life people!

Now this is regurgitation. "Change your own life" is like the slogan for discussion forums like this. Yet no one ever has any recommendations that make any sense. The best you will be told is go sit in a corner and medidtate or to simply "love." It's all useless non-advice.

There are only two ways that I see things changing. People getting involved with the political system and actually supporting people who advocate messages like Ron Paul does...and then holding them to what they promise or having them removed, or a violent revolution.

"Changing yourself" won't necessarily do anything to change everyone else. Did Ghandi become the change he wanted to see in the world? Because if he did...it didn't work. It is a quaint idea and it might help the situation somewhat but it isn't the be all end all answer.

It is also strange that some people, especially on this forum, believe that we manifest our own reality and whatnot and buy into the idea that there is this massive awakening...yet when someone like a Ron Paul comes along he must be fake or corrupt or part of the system. So, there is no awakening then and there is no manifestation going on. There never will be. Anyone and everyone who might look like they want to do something positive is in on the conspiracy.

Sorry but I'll throw my support behind someone who has shown he is willing to change things. Even if it turns out he is a bad guy all I ended up with is what I knew I would have gotten had I done nothing.

do not vote for ron paul. to be against immigrants in america is to be incredibly ironic

he is supported heavily by neo-nazis/clansmen.

most politicians are like drug dealers/gold diggers/prostitutes

they will lie to gain your trust. he is one of them.

I am not here to judge you for who you support.

but a politicians's stance on immigration is the canary in the mine.

I just think that you show know that Ron Paul is completely against illegal immigrants based on facts that have already been proven to be false. For example, the work that illegal immigrants do generates over 250 billion dollars a year into the US economy, yet they only draw around 80-90 billion a year from social services. Don't you think they pay their rent? Also, most pay more into Social Security and taxes then your average American, since most are on payrollls, but don't collect tax refunds. These are all little facts that politicians and most media like to leave out,and there are so many more.

Also, everyone is an illegal immigrant technically. This land truly belongs to the 200+ million Native Americans that were genocided for greed, and the survivors of this act. They were silenced, and till this day they are still oppressed, and considered "terrorists" to an extent, according to US LAW.

Most of the "illegals" coming from Mexico are just Native Americans that live in Mexico, but all of this land was ancestrally theirs. The border between America and Mexico did not exist until 200 years ago or so. They have been living here for at least 25,000 thousand years.

The genocide of the Native Americans was probably the worst crime to have ever occured on this planet. And then to be against "illegal immigration", when in reality this country is an illegal occupation which arose out of the worst crime humanity has ever enacted against itself,is just ironic.

And most Americans, born here and recent immigrants ,do not recognize this,or aren't truly aware of it. And as long as America continues to live absentminded of what America really is,it will continue to cause havoc and mindless bloodshed around the world,no matter who it "elects" into office.

I would like to see fractional reserve banking replaced by a new monetary system. Ron Paul is the only one who seems to have at least some chance of being able to do that at the moment. The U.S. dollar is the world's reserve currency. If the dollar is replaced or changed, then that will have a major impact on the entire world economy.

Trying to change the Swedish currency is virtually impossible I think without the U.S. dollar first being changed. But if the U.S. dollar is changed or replaced, then that is something the Swedish government cannot ignore.

Abolishing the Fed is key to any real change. Aaron Russo and others have explained it well. Lincoln and Kennedy were assasinated because they were planning it. Billary has been given the evil Elites' vote. But at least Ron Paul brings up the subject for discussion, even if most still don't get that the Fed is Private Bank and I suspect secondary to the Bank of England and Bundesbank , spelling sorry(German)

I am not here to judge you for who you support.

I can tell that this is true by looking at the nonsensical argument you have made. Such as:

to be against immigrantsin america is to be incredibly ironic

he is supported heavily by neo-nazis/clansmen.

they will lie to gain your trust. he is one of them.

I just think that you show know that Ron Paul is completely against illegal immigrants based on facts that have already been proven to be false.

No one is against immigrants they are against illegal immigrants. There is a clear difference and it isn't ironic in the least. Then you actually make the argument that Ron Paul is supported by "neo-nazis." First of all...they are going to support someone for whatever reason they want and it won't make any sense. You act as if Ron Paul is advocating another Holocaust when reality would probably demonstrate that they are anti-illegal immigration so they are supporting him because he is against it. On top of that, Ron Paul is backed by people from 9/11 Truth and other anti-establishment individuals so I guess he is a horrible person and we should all be anti-Truth and pro-establishment. For the love of god, never make an argument like that again.

You go on to say that he will lie. Well, this is possible but he actually has a voting record and speeches to stand by. So, I suppose he had been plotting this all along and he is tyring to fool us with 20 years worth of an anti-establishment message?

The issue of illegal immigrants and what they contribute and share has not been proven false and it doesn't even matter. The illegals are being used to force a North American Union. I don't give a shit why someone is against an issue if they are actually right. You can be against shooting yourself in the face because the bullets are too expensive even though a better reason would be because it would kill you but I wouldn't hold it against the person for not shooting themself.

You really go off the deep end when you claim that everyone is an illegal immigrant. No one who is born in the country is an immigrant as they did not travel here they have always been here. This is why we allow people born here, even if they are born to illegal immigrant mothers, to stay here. This argument isn't based on anything.

Another great argument is taking back land that "is theirs." Wonderful...now the rest of the world should follow suit and World War 4 can errupt so everyone can take back the lands that had been theres before. I can't wait. Or is it just OK for illegal Mexicans to do so? Land changes hands, it always has. There is no way that people should just start to take back what they think is theirs otherwise we would have the entire world in a battle over everything.

The genocide of Native Americans is the same thing that happened to pretty much everyone in every country. People invade, they plunder, they steal, they rape, they do everything imaginable that is horrible. Then there are things like the Holocaust and slavery. If our country is living under an illegal occupation so is everyone else. The land that people live on belonged to someone else at some point.

I think that you are completely over the top. My guess would be that you are either Latin American or Native American.

Enjoy advocating the North American Union and the New World Order. I'm sure they will take care of you, your Mexicans, and your Native Americans.
