Christmas is a ritual.

I'd rather not feed it energy! I'll just hang out with my mates and have a good time!

No trees, funny hats, or crap like that involved!

Home to family as always. I don't care about subliminal satanic holiday, not going to let that keep me from enjoying being at home with family, connecting, enjoying good food etc. I did let it for a while, but I'd rather not hurt my family at the only time of year most people really relax and enjoy themselves.

I'm NOT spending a load of money I don't have which is good.

My closest family and I all put names in a hat last night and each pulled out a name. We are going to buy ONE christmas present for the person we pulled out that costs no more than £20, thus we all have a laugh and no-one gets into unecessary debt and no-one feeds the christmas commercial frenzy.

There are some small children in my family, they are exempt of course but I have asked everyone not to bombard my son too much (he's only 2) and to just get him a few small things each so as not to make him a materialistic whore like the rest of them.

Should be good. Bring on the Yule Log!

That's nice :) I agree, all the presents are very unnecessary, it almost makes me feel worse, rather than good. Materialism at it's worst I guess, what do we need all these presents for? My family used to spoil me with money/gifts, it hurt, all I wanted was their love, which they didn't show much. But it's all good now :)

i love this period of year, i have diwali this week which is like christmas and we celebrate christmas aswell. so we get double presents and great food and pretty drunk.

i know the saturnalia angle, but like lenejento said, getting people togethwr and having fun is what its all about.

This is the thing- i'd rather not give nor recieve....

I dont see why im pressured once a year to buy people 'stuff' just coz its a certain date of the year! i do my good deeds throughout the year- helping out friends, doing nice thoughtful things for them, favours etc etc the same with the family (not to mention the numerous strangers that i end up doing favours for), but im guilt tripped into buying presents because if i dont im called a humbug and everyone still buys for you even though they said thy wouldnt....so you feel really guilty!! Are birthdays not enough to receive a card and a present- i even think thats unecessary too...but still! I have everything i could possibly want- a roof over my head- my lovely cats and family etc and running water- heating and food!! what more could you want?:D

I agree with you Nuit.

I love to give things to people. I have enough things to keep me happy and dont like people spending money on me when they can't afford it.

I do always have to have a Christmas tree though and I love to dress the house with tasteful decorations and candles

It's as if most people are hypnotised at Christmas. They're bought into the whole spectacle by the hypnosis from their TV, magazines, radio and also the spectacle presented in shops and stores.

People are sucked in and they don't even know it's happening to them.

I know, I was/am one of them.

I know it's a complete commercial farce as I have experienced many years of struggleing to manage my very little money to give my kids what they wanted.

I try not to get sucked in now though cos my kids are hypnotised by it all, I find it hard trying to convert them.

xmas means nothing to me in religious terms.... for me its just a shake up from the year... some time off and an excuse to have a few beers....

you make it what it is... don't see why the biggest event of the year where everything builds around should only be for religious folk.... use it for what you want out of it..

I was scheduled to do nothing and spend Xmas alone, but I've had a really surprising offer which has blown me away with its generosity so now I'm gonna be spending some quality time with a very special person. :)

Xmas is what you make of it, so instead of viewing it as a ritual, just do something that makes you happy. :)

For Christmas Eve, think ill go to midnight mass,
then ill go home and stay up all night praying to JC
Smoke a joint for him give thanks and all that.
Will probably go back to church xmas and do mass again..eat and drink the body and blood of JC type of thing.
After that, ill probably go home and watch Jesus Christ Superstar,
and after that ill probably listen to the sound track, dance around in a holy fashion.
after, think i'll watch 'The Passion of the christ' and then maybe polish my
crosses...have quite a collection i can tell you...anyway. there you go..;)
Hope you all have a good one :)

]EXTRACT

He scratched his head, and looked at Alistair. “There’s something in the back of my mind – an experiment in the early spring of 2005 – in New York, I think – something about particle acceleration.”

Alistair nodded. “Got it – aye, I remember it, but I never related it to Angeline’s work. They created a collision in the particle accelerator, using gold atoms, at close to the speed of light. It fractured the gold nuclei into the basic building blocks of matter – gluons and quarks. Theoretically, at least, they created a mercifully short-lived black hole."
