Not sure if this is classifiable as a ghost or a cryptid.

The case of Gef (prounouced 'jeff' I think) the talking mongoose that haunted the Irving family in the village of Dalby on the Isle of Man, off the English north west coast in the 1930's.

also sometimes known as the case of the 'Dalby Spook'.

The hauntings commenced in 1931.

it created quite a tabloid sensation at the time.

Gef was apparently able to tell jokes, spy on nieghbours and even give relationship and medical advice, all in perfect clipped English tones.

and this was 80 years before the talking Meerkat ads on the tv now!

Where you get that photo?

I use to scare Cadets with Gef the Talking Mongoose stories as we use to camp in the plantation that is nearby the farmhouse :D

Also interesting to note was that talking Mongooses are of Indian legend and Mr Irving had recently come back from India. Also gef claimed to have been born in New Delhi, India in 1852. He also claimed to be the 8th wonder of the world.

But Voirrey, who died in 2005, always maintained she never made up Gef.

You can also now stay in the Farmhouse, it is a Manx National Heritage building now.

imprints of Gef's paw and human-like hand.

Interestingly a mongoose population had been introduced to the island in order to control the rabbit population.

Yes, we do see Mongooses and Polecats on the Island.

Awwww, yes, I remember the story of Gef. Reading about it was my first foray into the paranormal at the tender age of (about) eight.

Lovely story. I wish I could have met the little fella. :)

well, that in itself is no problem. It's the execution of the film that matters most of all.:D
