I just got off the phone with my sister, who lives in Whyalla, South Australia.
She was telling me how last week the Police attended her son's (my nephew's) high school to give a talk on bullying in the school. Anyway, as part of the talk the Police showed a DVD.
At the end of the DVD the credits were rolling and it said something or other about "Based on the ideas of L. Ron Hubbard'. My nephew said, "L. Ron Hubbard???", to which the teacher replied, "Who's that?". (Pfft, typically) My nephew said, "He's the guy that founded Scientology".
Anyway, my nephew got home from school and rang my sister at work to tell her about it. She got home and my nephew handed her a pamphlet the Police had handed out in correlation with the DVD, on the back page of which had something along the lines of "If you're being bullyed or want further information go to www.wearehappiness.org" ... (or similar. Unfortunately, my sister couldn't remember the exact web address and she's since thrown out the pamphlet)
Anyway, my sister went to the web link and it took her to a Scientology site. She was fuming and told my nephew she'd be ringing the school the next day to complain. He begged her not to, blah blah, so end result was she didn't.
The following week she told me she was watching "Sunrise" in the morning (a news/bullshit show that's aired nationally and which I never watch) and apparently during the "Sunrise" program they switch over to your local news. She said they aired a segment during the local news bit which showed how parents were outraged in Whyalla that the Police had been showing a Scientology DVD about bullying.
Anyways (to keep a long story long), I told her about how I'd read on this forum about Common Purpose spreading its tentacles in the UK and how when I'd tried to find out any info about it in Australia, it seemed that the only area it was active in was in the Whyalla area (her area).
I don't know if there's any link. But regardless, I think the fact the Police are showing Scientology info to high school kids and handing out pamphelts with "If you feel bullyed, please visit this website" which turns out to be a Scientology website is suss in the extreme!
