Does anyone know whether these things remove a good percentage of the crap.Im getting a bit tired of spending all my money on Volvic.
And can anyone recommend a good manufacture or product?

I have a reverse osmosis filter. I've had it for some years now, and it cost a lot!

It removes 90+% of 'bad stuff'. (Sorry to be vague - I don't remember!).

I wouldn't be without it. The water tastes lovely, visitors always ask for "a glass of your special water", and it doesn't mess up the kettle with fur.

Because the filters are so fine, some of the good stuff gets removed along with the 'baddies',so I was advised to supplement my diet, but as I was already using colloidal minerals, that wasn't a problem for me.
I don't know how much similar units remove.

I guess the best thing to do would be to 'google', and see what's around. I know I could get a R/O unit a lot cheaper now, than what I paid for mine.

I hope this is of some use.http://www.freshlysqueezedwater.org.uk/index.html

Your best bet is a Portable Water Distiller. You're looking at around £150 to £200, but it'll pay for itself by removing 99% of the crap in Tap water, and is far healthier than Volvic or other mineral waters. We're not designed to drink rocks! Ideally we should get all our water from the food we eat, but it ain't a perfect world, so a distiller is a great idea. After distilling, I put my water on the window sill in a glass jug to soak up the energy of the sun.

My one looks like this model:
