Before i start i just want to say that i am 23, male, not the healthiest of people but have no chest/heart related problems that i know of. Im not stressed or anything, or at least i dont think so because im a pretty laid back person.

I dont know what these feelings are that i get in my chest and when i explain them to other people they never seem to of had anything similar or even understand what i am on about. Basically I get a sensation in my chest which is hard to describe, its not painful at all its just more of a fluttery kind of discomfort. This only happens (ive noticed) at night when i try to sleep but it doesnt happen all the time and if im in bed watching tv im fine, but as soon as i decide i want to sleep i feel the sensation slowly start even though i havent moved at all im literally just closing my eyes.

Im trying to describe it the best i can because its hard to explain. Ive tried searching the internet to see if people have similar issues but they never seem to be like mine when i try to sleep, people just mention that theres is just something they get day to day so i dont think its the same as what i get.

I am actually up now at 4am writing this because of these chest sensations and once they start i cant seen to rest at all because the feeling keeps coming unless i change position then it comes again within 5 seconds. now that i am up they are just gone, its as soon as i try to close my eyes and relax that it returns.

I feel knackered but i wont be able to sleep now until 6-7. when i attempt to sleep my body will just pass out because of how tired i am and that seems to be my only way of getting around it once it starts.

Any info or questions would be great, even if you want me to try and describe the sensation more i will try my best. :)

The fluttering sensation you describe is experienced with heart palpitations. The fact that you only experience these while lying down, and you can not sleep properly, suggests that you should seek medical advice as the palpitations may increase with your anxiety over them.

Best of luck.

You could have a form of sleep apnea that is caused by an epiglottis problem.
The epiglottis is a cartilaginous flap at the top of the larynx just above the glottis—the opening into the larynx. It is normally in an upright position to allow passage of air.
The epiglottis can flutter causing the problems you mentioned.

There are a few things it could be. Sometimes if you are stressed you can get a thing where on the virge of sleep you wake up violently with an electric jolt that feels like falling.

It could be heart palpitations but you can get them anytime and they are unmistakeable as they can take you breath away.

The is also something else which may be more positive. Id check out the serious things first but if you dont find anything then it could be your heart chakra. Ive been having sensations in my chest since 2009 and im still alive! Infact when i get them i just let go and experience the moment in the now. Then the feelings in the chest expand into a kind of blissful surendering painfully pleasant euphoria that then extends in waves throughout the whole body. Theres a thread about this in the awakening section which may be of interest. http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1059138363#post1059138363

Remember if you go to a doctor he will only dose you up, that is when the vicious circle begins, they know to because I told my GP the score.

Yeah sounds like palpitations.

Fairly common, don't let it worry you. If you are getting them every simgle day I say see a GP.... I get them every once in a while and I have been since I was about 20. I had an ECG though because they were pretty constant at one point. Doc said it was an Ectopic Heartbeat

http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/ate/heartandblood/203402.html

Ectopic heartbeats are really just extra beats that make the heart 'bump' irregularly from time to time.
They can be very disconcerting, but they are quite harmless and not indicative of anything seriously wrong with your heart. Everyone, even athletes, get them occasionally.
The difficulty with ectopic beats is that they tend to be more frequent and more noticeable when you're stressed or worried.
It is possible to find yourself in a bit of a vicious cycle with the ectopic beats adding to your anxiety and causing more palpitations.
Any additional unpleasant stress, is likely to add to your symptoms for the same reason.
It is worth remembering that artificial stimulants, such as tobacco and caffeine in drinks (tea, coffee and coke), will also make any ectopic heartbeat more frequent.
So cutting down on stimulants and taking more physical exercise can really make you feel better.
Sometimes medication known as a beta-blockers (propranolol, atenolol) are used to inhibit the effect on the heart of the body's own natural stimulant (adrenaline).
This too can be useful, but can't unfortunately be offered to those who suffer asthma.
It's reassuring that you've had your heart examined by a specialist and that your heart tracing (ECG) looks healthy during an episode.
It might just be worth checking with your doctor that you've had a blood test to make sure that your thyroid gland is not over-active, because that too can lead to symptoms like those you describe.
However, if – as it seems – all serious causes have been ruled-out, then you need to consider whether you can lower your stress levels.

So yeah i get them don't stress but see GP for more details, I am in no way qualified to give medical advise the link was just to re-iterate my point I can't vouch for its authenticity I am not responsible for content.... or anything i have just said as im not a bloody doctor OK...l(sorry just a little disclaimer there lol )

I get a feeling like my heart is going so fast that I think I will faint, then it stops. Sometimes its just a few huge beats that come out of nowhere and I feel it most in my throat. Sometimes I get a generalised fluttering for two or three days without stopping and it affects my brain. Beta blockers didn't seem to make much difference so now I just try to ignore it. When I have been in the cardiac care unit for other heart stuff you can see how one beat works and the next one fails. I've been told it's more annoying than dangerous. My doc says the heart has memory like the brain. When these cells activate it can affect the rhythm.

We are complex.

Maybe you are carrying something in your heart/memory that needs to be released, has been activated, but it is in some kind of primordial loop. I actually have something similar going on with me. Occasionally (usually a couple times a month, minimum), it is very difficult for me to go to sleep. I feel a discomfort (not pain) in the chest. VERY difficult to explain. It sort of jolts me awake. Maybe it's apnea, I don't know.
