One thought that hit me was that today we see the progress of information technology accelerating, and could that simply be a result of evolution moving more towards its true nature?
The idea is that all of reality is digital information. Not like in the Matrix movies, because there the Matrix was created by a machine world. I mean reality itself as digital information.

Yes, I've thought this too. I think they are definitely trying to steer us in that direction. A digitized hive mind where we all obtain the same information at once and act together.
I think this is already happening when we sleep to a certian extent...
Had a drem about it too. 2012 was nothing more than all of us being upgraded to a digitized existence where we all lived in our own virtual prisons. No one really communicating in real life. Just hooked up to their own dream machine

Well evolutionists argue new information (code) can come about by random mutation and natural selection, Creationists say God put the entire content of everything in there so that no new information arises, only variations on existing code. The two sides don't see that they're saying more-or-less the same thing.
Not to worry, when scientists and evolutionists catch-up and reach the summit of their long climb up that mountain, they'll no doubt find a bunch of Gnostics, Buddhists and other assorted mystics who've been sitting there for thousands of years...
The idea is that all of reality is digital information.
Of course it is, ultimately.
It's actually a very old idea, Gnostics, Buddhists and other mystics have grasped for the same idea with their doctrines of metaphysics for thousands of years.
Everything is code on some level, genetic, quantum etc.
Not like in the Matrix movies, because there the Matrix was created by a machine world.
Ever heard of an Ancestor Simulation?
I mean reality itself as digital information.
aka the "spirit world", the invisible one underlying the physical reality we perceive with the five material senses.
In the enlightened state the rules and laws of the physical universe are seen not to be absolute, but rather mutable (changeable) such that some can be bent and others broken.

'Reality' as we experience it can be measured in digits.
However, if we are all living in a 'fake reality', real life would probably rely on something so alien we wouldn't even recognise it. Even the word 'digital' is relatively new in the grand scheme of things.
Of course this is all hypothesis and philosophy. As no-one has exposed another level of reality to anyone in the present reality we can only rely on getting through the world we currently experience - Hypothesis is pointless until something is proven with concrete evidence.

It is philosophy until we learn through science to understand how a reality built on code is not necessarily a 'fake reality'. People need a sense of their reality being really-real to live productively and happily, the 'fake reality' angle is pretty much anti-'life' as we commonly define it. But the world is imperfect seemingly, so philosophically the same ideas recur over and over.
The better idea is that the science of a metaphysically encoded reality enables us to interact with the universe/creation on completely different, more empowered levels ie. to operate on the code level consciously, to manipulate it with mind and so on. It might sound far-fetched to a casual reader, but science is getting there, gradually, through technology.
