Thought i would do a update on the go card as there has been some media coverage.
Privacy Commissioner launches Go Card review
This -->http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/privacy-commissioner-launches-go-card-review-20100730-10z7n.html
Police and other government departments can track you threw your go card and watch you threw cctv
Those people like students and pensioners who need to show identification to receive a discount become registered and have there id linked to the card.
Most people will register there go cards for the benefits such as balance control, online and phone access.
translink had a promotion giving out free go cards with 10 dollars credit but you needed to show id to get them.

They are also phasing out cash transactions for public transport.
A tactic they are using is to make people pay more for paper tickets purchased by cash and less for go card journeys that require no cash transaction.
Because your money is stored on the Radio-frequency identification chip embedded in the go card.
By doing this people automatically favor the go card because of cheaper prices.

I noticed this today as I lost my go card while on the bus and had to get another one. The cashier at the seven eleven had to take a second look at my card and then typed something in the computer.
I've heard bus drivers saying that they will be phasing out the paper tickets.

Fortunately for me I wasn't using correct i.d. (I use my mothers pensioner concession as i'm not eligable for concession) so they haven't got my details :D

they have done away with the papr ticket and replaced with a (1) a throw away card with eletic strip in it to swipe on and off... and (2) a plastic card that u get by providing ur information for them to store and keep track off.

Welfare cash tracking raises privacy fears

Posted Sun Oct 11, 2009 9:19am AEDT
The Welfare Rights Centre says it is concerned over plans to track purchases made with welfare money, claiming it would be an invasion of privacy.
The Federal Government is considering implementing a system that would see welfare spending monitored through the use of debit cards.
The cards would only allow people to buy certain products, such as food and household goods.
Centre director Maree O'Halloran says that while the proposed system has some benefits, there is a risk of people losing their freedom.
"We are concerned that underlying this better, innovative way of collecting information, there could be the possibility of tracking the lifestyles of people who receive social security payments and making judgments about how they use their money and surveilling what they do," Ms O'Halloran said.
