A tendency to extract messages from meaningless noise could be an
early sign of schizophrenia, according to a study by Yale School of Medicine
researchers. article link (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/10/071024115306.htm)
So, of course, if Yale is "debunking" it, that means EVP must be a valid
phenomena worth investigating. ;)

EVP is electronic voice phenomonon, which is basically catching the voices of ghosts on tape.
In a microphone, sound waves cause a coil of wire to vibrate near a magnet, creating electricity which can be amplified and recorded. Ghosts are supposed to create vibrating electromagnetic fields, which can be converted into electricity by that coil. There is no physical movement so you can't hear anything while recording, but if you're lucky, you'll find a little something extra when playing it back.

I did not understand the article. Did the test persons hear the correct words ("increase," "children," "A-OK," and "Republican") or not? If they were able to correctly extract the words, then that shows skill not pathology. Or?

There aren't any correct words, it's simply trying to find patterns in random garbage. Those words are just what most people interpreted it as.
The crazy people were able to massage the garbage into meaningful sentences.

What I didn't understand was this: "The participants were asked to repeat any words or phrases that they heard. Only four words--"increase," "children," "A-OK," and "Republican"--were consistently reproduced."
What do they mean, consistently reproduced? I take it that consistently means correctly. Then the test persons correctly extracted those words.

Consistency doesn't denote correctness, it denotes sameness.
When it came to those four words, the participants were in agreement about having thought they heard them.

I don't find the article being clear about that. It's too fuzzy I think.

I don't find the article being clear about that. It's too fuzzy I think.
For example, were the words "increase," "children," "A-OK," and "Republican" actual words spoken by the six speakers in the recordings? If yes, then the test persons were actually able to extract correct information. The article is not clear about that.

There's no words there. This is equivalent to having three stains on a carpet, and people looking at it and thinking they see two eyes and a mouth. A lot of people might readily see it, but there certainly isn't a face on the carpet.

From the article: "participants listened with headphones to overlapping recordings of six speakers reading neutral texts, which made the words virtually incomprehensible"
So clearly there were real words there in the recordings. And were some of the words: "increase," "children," "A-OK," and "Republican"?

Yes, fine, it contains real words. In the same way that particle board contains real trees, omlettes contain real eggs, and the following image contains real photos.

It's implied that those aren't the actual words spoken though, because the whole thing depends on 'meaningless sensory information', and if it can be understood then it isn't meaningless and the whole experiment is a failure.
I think that EVP might pick up Electronic harassment and mind control signals if people researched it or other EM weapons/signals.They don`t want people running around with EM recording equipment.
Also the bastards play white noise(doctored with irritating tones in it) and other hiss noise into me for large parts of the day.
I did a post on it a couple of week ago and mentioned it to other TI`s?

It's kind of like reverse speech... well, like the ones I do anyways. Only Crazy people can make out the words.
Here an example where I hear "Honor the grove", http://www.mediafire.com/?a9mzbj2sidm If you're insane enough you will hear it as well.
Forwards it's the crazy lady who yells at Condi Rice, "you are a criminal" and because I'm obviously schizophrenic, (as I can hear all that EVP stuff) you might not mind looking into why I think she is saying it... (cause crazy people are fun)...
I think she says "honor the grove" because she is a plant. Yeah, I think the politicians are starting to make their own setups so they can control the outcome.
Weird... yes I can be.

The Yale 'Skull & Bones' psychology science group maybe want us to 'understand' that, yet still it's not clear that those words were not spoken in the recordings. To be fair, there may be good science behind the article, but the article itself really sucks. It's not scientific enough and hovers dangerously close to the edge of pseudo-science.

Electronic Voice Phenomena - (EVP)
Anyone can do evp and you dont need expensive equipment to do so.
If you have a tape recorder lying around that is good enough to start. Make sure you have brand new tapes to use.(30minute tapes minimum) This will eliminate any bleed thru on the tape, and if you have a external mic to use that will eliminate motor noise from the recorder. If your Tape Recorder has VOX or voice activation I dont recommend using this. In most cases it takes one word to set it off and most of the time you only get one word, so there you would have lost an EVP
Other types of recorders used are digital recorders this enables you to listen to your results right away compared to that of audio, where you must wait until the tape is done to listen to see if you have any results. Be sure to turn the volume up all the way, most of the time the voices are of that of a whisper and having your volume at a low or normal level you might miss one. This goes the same if you use a video camera be sure to turn your TV up all the way as well, you might be surprised and find you also picked some up on there as well.
Simple Techniques To Use
Rule number one and this is an important one when trying to get evp DONT TALK unless you are asking the spirits a question.
If you are going to talk wait until you are done recording evp. Remember you dont want anyone talking because you want to know for sure that what you got on tape is really an evp and not someone else in your group whispering or talking.
There are a couple methods you can use one. Place your recording devise somewhere ask a couple questions then walk off and take some pictures or investigate another area.
The other is walk around with the recording device and ask some questions.
Be sure to allow at least a minimum of 30 to 40 seconds before asking the next question. This will give them time to respond.
Dont worry if you dont get anything the first few times you do this. You will eventually and when you do it will be well worth the wait.
One thing that will not happen is that you will not stand at one place for 10mins at a time and walk away with dozen of EVPs like one group claims.
Below are a few examples

Shut Up
