Hunter’s Moon on October 25 closest for 2007
Earth & Sky Radio Series
with hosts Deborah Byrd, Joel Block,

Tonight’s full moon is the Hunter’s Moon.
It’s also the closest and therefore biggest full moon of 2007.

Tonight’s moon will be about 50,000 kilometers –
or 30,000 miles – closer to the Earth than 2007’s most distant
and smallest full moon, last April.

This October full moon is the Hunter’s Moon
for the northern hemisphere. That’s the name for the full moon
following the Harvest Moon in September.
This October full Hunter’s Moon comes at precisely 4:52 a.m.
Universal Time Friday. For the continental U.S.,
that means the full moon comes this evening or around midnight
Thursday night, when the moon will be shining sky high.

At the same time – on the opposite side of the world
in East Asia and Indonesia – this same full moon will be reaching
its peak at noontime Friday.

No matter where you live, all of you will see a large and full-looking moon
all night tonight. You’ll see the moon rising in the east around sunset,
highest in the sky around local midnight and setting in the west around sunrise.

Around the time of each full moon, the moon stays out all night long.
That’s because, in order to appear full, the moon has to be opposite the sun.

Hunter’s moon in 2007 resides between Aries and Pluto

The Full Hunter’s Moon tonight also happens to be the largest,
closest full moon of 2007.
Watch for the moon to rise in the east around sunset,
climb highest in the sky around midnight and set in the west around sunrise.
Like any full moon, tonight’s moon will be out from dusk till dawn.

As the moon beams above your eastern horizon this evening,
it’ll be residing at the border of the constellations
Aries the Ram and Pisces the Fishes.
The moon’s glare, however, will make it difficult if not impossible
to see these constellations’ stars.
Nonetheless, we label the three stars that make up
Aries the Ram’s head: Hamal, Sheratan, and Mesarthim,
and the alpha star of Pisces the Fishes: Alrescha.
These stars will be much easier to see on a moonless night.

Meanwhile, the largest full moon of the year insists on
grabbing the spotlight. This extra close full moon, in fact,
will be throwing its weight around and making a big splash
along the ocean shorelines.Look for extra buoyant high tides
over the next few days.

Closest full moons recur in regular cycles.
The 14th full moon after tonight’s full moon will usher in
the closest full moon of 2008.

That's a good point, such a downer knowing they are potentially doing their 'thang' during this lunar phase.
BUT, there are also alot of rituals going on
so far as the hedge witches are concerned, that are of a positive nature
and NO (to the baron's et al out there, lol) their energy is not being harvested
by the elite bastards, I believe there is alot of good intentions being used during tonight's rituals....so not all bad news!!:D

I may even wear the speedos borat style, but I can't film it as it's a sacred ceremony, and the gods of analantis apparently don't like cameras.. Shame :rolleyes::cool:

Moonlet Study Sheds Light on Origins of Saturn's
Rings

Saturn's rings are seen here in a panoramic mosaic of 165 images taken by
the Cassini spacecraft. The color contrast has been greatly exaggerated to
better show the color and size differences between the rings.

A new study found clusters of large ice chunks in the rings, lending support
to the idea that the rings formed from moons that were slowly pulverized.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, the fifteenth of the eighth moon, is usually accompanied by fine weather for at this time the moon shines brightest, the sky is clear and often free from all atmospheric interferences ...g athering under the moonlight it is often the family’s pleasure to recount legends about the moon and it's imaginary inhabitants. Such mythical stories based no doubt on the black spots on the face of the moon are legion ... one such is the one about the beautiful Chang-0 who fled to the moon

The Moon Goddess

Waiting, she finds her silk stockings soaked with the dew drops glistening on the marble steps. Finally, she is moving to let the crystal-woven curtain fall when she casts one more glance at the glamorous autumn moon.

Drinking Alone under the Moon

Amongst the flowers is a pot of wine
I pour alone but with no friend at hand
So I lift the cup to invite the shining moon,
Along with my shadow we become party of three
The moon although understands none of drinking, and
The shadow just follows my body vainly
Still I make the moon and the shadow my company
To enjoy the springtime before too late
The moon lingers while I am singing
The shadow scatters while I am dancing
We cheer in delight when being awake
We separate apart after getting drunk
Forever will we keep this unfettered friendship
Till we meet again far in the River of Stars*. ( *Milky Way )
