the Skull is a symbol of death,the spirit realms and of initiation into the Occult in general wich mostly translates to initiation into the brotherhood.
it's important in alchemy and it's also imo a symbol of the templar lines/pirate lines of old, who of course didn't vanish.
traditionally used by Freemasons, it was the battle flag of the Knights Templar fleet, later pirates. tho pirates would use many other symbols too.
like daggers, sabres, hearts, hourglasses and other stuff, often in combination with a skull.

so on many famous paintings or other artworks you'll often find a skull, it doesnt matter that it looks out of place on some works because the reason why the artist put it there is to signalize to all the other initates that he is one of them. and also where he gained the knowledge that is incorporated in his art or even inspired it in the first place.

now why would they put the skull there ? if not to tell the ones in the know they'e part of it.

see the brotherhood is like icecream and comes in all tastes, so skull and initiated doesnt mean skull&bones, it could be anything from a funny ass oto lodge to even smaller unheard offshots down to hollywood covens wich have inner circles like all brotherhood controlled societies.
basicly, every asset can be used to raise (indoctrinate, or serious mk) some unofficial bloodliner for his role in the brotherhood.
step by step they get lured deeper into it. quiet genius really, think of it, while they progress up the ladder and beleive they get more power wich is reinforced through the obvious gains such as materialistic things, mansions,nice cars and all that, they also become more and more controllable by the Pupeteers. status dependency and blackmail often play a role aswell..

similar to the techniques they use on us really. of course as they progress they get rewarded like the reward/progress system in mk where rings also play a part, or in secret societies in general.
the bright side if you like, money, fame, respect, chicks, certain privileges..

but what's the X factor?
its bloodline imo, the X is like a cross, one line crossing another. Avril is bloodline and she knows it (at least one altar of her), that's also the only reason she is where she is and does what she does.
see times have changed, and people like avril are as importand to the overall brotherhood agenda as people like kissinger. both are working bees, agents, just in different fields of operation.

an imo interesting scene from Pirates of the Caribbean3.

at one point all 9 pirate lords or brethren as they call themselves gather together and argue bout what todo next and who becomes their king. after a while they all start to fight with each other and just generally cant come to an agreement on anything. thats when Jack Sparrows father steps into the scene. he's the big guy, noone will argue with him because he officiates the 'code'. so he shoots a guy and says something like noone breaks the law.
then he calls for the code to settle the dispute and two fellas come and bring a big ass book. the Pirate Codex.their law. and all the 9 lords will follow it, no question, no argument, they all are backstabbin each other at every opportunity but they wont break the codex.

just observe their dresscode, not just magera but the lot, its pirate and vampire style.
predominantly black, often also black/white black/red combo, dark imagery and occult symbols of course too.. and tats all over the body.
also if you watch all those recent vampire movies, you'll find the same general theme in most of them, the main characters are mostly young, they dress cool, look good and more often than not have unusual powers, and they all come from old bloodlines. their parents live in big villas, drive big cars and hold respectable/influential positions within society.

some good work soulja i wonder how many of these people bands etc are aware of the symbolism they employ is it deliberate or are threy just pawns on the checkerboard wanting riches and fame.Do they know the history and the political religious tie ins to this stuff,

good questions man, worth a debate. i ask'd myself these questions many times so heres my take on it;

they're aware of some things but ultimately they're pawns. but you cant really say it that general cos the situation for each case is different. it depends on many things, for example to what level they're initated, what brand of the brotherhood also plays a role. and whether they're bloodline and therefor born into this whole system, prepared, trained (brainwashed) from their birth on and automaticly destined for a higher role, or whether they joined say the masons. either because their fam was involved or they were sucked in due their success (public exposure wich brings influence).
many lower level public figures come at least through the frat system.
theres also a monarch connection, some are just straight up MK-Kidz. ''some'' is prolly a big understatement cos there more Monarchs than most peopz would believe, even those who read cathy o brien and whatnot.
but once you look into MK a bit and the themes, symbols, phrases that are used in programming u'll notice the same things all over youth culture. the music scene and hollywood in general. it's important to keep them in program. constant reinforcing is essential.

and isnt it strange how the different youth cultures, goth rap hip hop metal etc all employ the same symbols and rebellious attitudes while maintaining their separartion and opposing the mainstream government system

strange indeed, on the first look but on the second it makes perfect sense. there is just one brotherhood. no matter how apparantly different many brands are. no matter that some were fighting each other for centuries (on one level).
and government is the stick used to hit us as long and increasingly harder on the head until we stand up and fight.
government is not the enemy, its just one tool in the big box of the real enemy.
on the other hand there our heros like for example V for Vendetta, people u just have to symphatise with.
that will give us false hope and also make us follow them. or at least influence us, guide us in certain directions/thought forms. a new shepherd for the sheeps that left the main herd. those shepherds come like the brotherhood in all brands.
for everyones taste theres a flavour so to speak.. wich brings us back to youthculture and why all this different music styles use the same bloody symbols, handsigns etc..
they don't care wich of their misguiding illusions you follow as long as you follow one.

I wondered about the origination of the skull and bones. Thanks for the information.

I was in Boston earlier this year. I was looking at one of the oldest cemetaries in the states. Practically all the tombstones had depictions of skull and bones and some with skulls with wings. (This was where some of the historical patriots were buried and also Benjamin Franklin's family) I overheard a tour guide saying the reason for them was that the first settlers in Boston were Puritans and did not want any Holy symbols on their graves because of idoltry so they used these instead. Creepy choice though, huh? Anyway, the tour guide went on to say the skull and bones were picked up by the pirates later. According to the posts here that doesn't appear to be true.

To add, the symbol for East Carolina University (ECU) is the skull and cross bones (ECU Pirates).

Skull and cross bones have become quite the fashion statement in the last few years. You can go into any Target and pick up some tees until your heart is content...
