THE growth in illegal music downloading is forcing desperate record company executives to buy less glamorous narcotics,

Industry insiders say dozens of executives have downgraded from cocaine soaked in champagne or premium vodka, to 'street highs' such as crack, glue and air freshener.

A record company source said: "Every time you download something for nothing a record company boss has to adjust his lifestyle. Offices throughout Soho are piled high with cheap bottles of glue and bags of crisps."

The source added: "Just last week we received word that a record company executive had to cook for himself. We can only give thanks to God he had someone to do the dishes.

"These people are used to having cocaine brought to them on one of the platinum discs of Tubular Bells, carried by the attractive girl from Steps or one of the early Sugababes.

"It's not as if they're musicians who can afford several houses with staff. Many of these guys have just two or three houses, often looked after by a part-time housekeeper who answers back.

"This time next year they'll be on family tax credits and clipping coupons out of the paper."

The industry is to launch a £10m campaign to highlight the growing crisis. A cinema advert will feature an executive enduring a cheap haircut, having a pizza delivered and ironing his own shirts to the strains of Drive by The Cars.

the thing Is I dont think the really top guys in the music biz really are bothered about it, they will be making money all over the place or they would not have been in the possition to run a company like that anyway.... unless you were one of the big players over many years like Mr Geffen....

If they REALLY wanted to they could prevent downloading form becoming an issue... or at least make it much less damaging to companies...

but take a look at modern music ....its nothing what it used to be.... very little freedom and if there is the bands dont last very long because they cant sustain them selfs....

To me although the way music is going as a result is not necessary it is caused by the downloading thing and I believe the effect is very beneficial to the agenda.... music is very important especially for kids growing up.... now there are very few bands which are enlightening and free sounding..... and I think this is by design....

you could count them on one hand, where years ago we had so much music, so much inspiration

lyrics from "Porcupine tree"

"One of the wonders of the world is going down
It's going down I know
It's one of the blunders of the world that no-one cares
No-one cares enough"

I agree. First infiltrate every genre to control the masses then destroy it.

yeah.... basicly take away full time bands unless they do exactly what we tell them to do... and of course %95 of musicians are just fickle people who want to be famous... so they do what ever they are told and are idolised for it...because they are populer and make a bit of cash.... even though they do what ever a 50 year old record company manager tells them to do so he can make shit loads of money and keep control of the general outlet of music is and what people get to hear. And rather than see through the shite the general public see it as a great job... why?? ...what is so great about a person on stage created by others... for money, to control and manipulate..... and people get on their knees and worship it.... ????? Crazy! ...

that being said some do leek through the system and hold up a light, and I dont think they will manage to kill music fully... and if they did it would be one of the last things they did kill.

Im not saying Bands should not compromise and stuff to find successes... sometimes you need that commercial brake ...or to wack a few singles out there... but most are just created around old business people and only have an intention to be famous... other than express the music they love and look to share it with others... which is what musicians used to be about..
