Hey I live in Oxford! I've got to go and see that.

I've been to the Union before and sometimes they let in non-students and guests. I'll have to check.

I've just called them and they say that it's members only. I'll try and find the person who got me in there last time and see if I can do it again. Fingers crossed!:p

If I can't get in there I'll go along anyway and wish David luck when he arrives.

So David Icke is a member???

Shit I really hate their elitism; I hope Icke wakes them up a bit.

You don't have to be a member to be invited to speak, but I think once you've spoken you're made an honourary member.

Norman Finkelstein was invited to talk at the Oxford Union this year but predictably Dershowitz and his fellow Nazi's have put an end to that. There's a good article about it in The Guardian today.

http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/ghada_karmi/2007/10/intellectual_terrorism.html

I know David Irving and Nick Griffin have been invited too. Not sure if they'll be talking there though.

Middle East Debate, 23rd Oct 2007 8:30pm
This House Believes that One State is the Only Solution to the Israel Palestine Conflict

Speakers in Proposition:
Avi Shlaim - an Iraqi Jew now lecturer at Reading/Oxford Universities
Illan Pappe - an Israeli Peace Campaigner
Ghada Karmi - a Palestinian Writer

Speakers in Opposition:
Peter Tatchell
Lord Trimble
Paul Usiskin a former serving officer in the IDF in the West Bank now head of Peace Now UK

Norman Finkelstein is indeed an interesting character. He believes that Zionists have been using the Holocaust in order to milk compensation out of the Swiss and Germans and a state from the Arabs. While most people would agree with him he is controversial. Finklestein famously debated George Galloway on Sky News recently.

Tatchell was the only anti - Palestinian speaker, speaking alongside a former IDF soldier and a former British politician with hopes to get back into parliament on the mainland.
The fact that Tatchell was in favour of the Apartheid resolution rather than the just resolution which is one person one vote as in todays South Africa is of no surprise to those who are familiar with Tatchell's rabid anti Palestinian and Islamophobic views and statements.

While Tatchell and Griffin have alot in common with each other such as their hatred of Muslims, Finklestein and Irving have not expressed any anti Muslim views that i am aware of.

Tatchell isn't anti-Muslim, he's anti-homophobia. If gay people are being horribly oppressed in Muslim countries he speaks out against it just as people speak out against the opression of Muslim people by Israeli authorities. He stands up for human rights. He's also a 911 truther.

Why shold I be joking? And what he makes of it is his choice, but I know he appreciates all the support he can get. I admire what he's doing and consider myself a part of his mission. How could I neglect him when he comes to my home town? Also the Oxford Union can be an intimidating audience; I've been in there once before.

I wonder what he would think of you, not been on this forum for a month yet and you create problems all over this forum?

I admire what he's doing and consider myself a part of his mission.

And good on you for it Hagbard. Some people just don't get what's going on. Money first before morals eh?

It sounded a bit groupie to me. Sanding outside in the cold waiting to see someone go into a place where your not welcome, not into all of that.

Icke could have opted to do a talk in your home town where everyone was welcome maybe the Oxford Union is a more lucrative gig for one reason or another.

How could I neglect him when he comes to my home town?

Your level of devotion i find quite scary.

I can't wait for the day that George W turns up there; although the floor at the Union will a bit daunting for him becaue he'll have to speak without a script!:D

I don't think they let you do that in the Union except on rare occasions. They once broadcast Question Time live in there.

David Icke will not be talking at the OU during Michaelmas Term.

They occasionally allow authorised cameras from the balcony.

Since you're not going to Shrewsbury on the 15th, and I can't make Oxford, lets swap notes?
