I've read on numerous different websites that refraining from consuming any animal products, when combined with other factors (meditation, refraining from alcohol/tobacco/drugs, regular exercise etc), can lead to a heightened state of spiritual awareness and vibration. What are peoples thoughts on this? Are there any vegans in here that can speak from experience? I'm seriously considering turning vegan.

If you do it right it's very good for your immune system. Our immune systems are under attack from pollution, tetra, cell phone masts, aspartame, so anything we can do to boost it in the right direction can't be bad.
I have friends and family who are vegan and love eating at their places ,parties etc .The food is excellentand since cutting out dairy i dont get full of phlegm? spelling ! and bunged up the same .Cakes taste as good if not better .Been put onto the raw chocolate and its delicious too , the darker the chocolate the better it is for you .The people i know who are vegan never seem to come down with colds and flu like others i know wich i have noticed over 12 years so thats saying something .I changed my diet a lot to deal with cancer as i was in the process of changing it anyway that just speeded things up .Iwould recommend it .Another friend was diagnosed with diabetes ,did a little research and the vegan diet was proven to be over 50% more effective in combating diabetes than the recommended diabetic society diet .A natural diet has got to be the best way to go good organic foods not polluted with chemicals .plenty of nuts seeds and fruit and veg , it gives you a boost and there are athletes and body builders who are vegan so you dont need meat to give strength . Personal choice but try it for a while and see if it doesnt work for you you can change back easy enough :D

it's possible that you can get a little bit more spiritual feeling when vegetarian or vegan,
but i'm sure for many (or all) it is placebo effect.
i'm pro-vegan because it's better for the animals,
and it feels very healthy. (i've eaten exclusively macrobiotic vegan food made by professional cooks for 2 months this summer)
now i'm back at home, i still eat meat and fish but not a lot. (my super health feeling has declined big time, haha)
maybe someday i too will be vegan,
but now i don't have enough resources to do so.
i doubt i'll ever be completely vegan,
because i think some stuff in the fish and meat our body needs it.
maybe we don't need to eat a lot, but still a little.
don't feel guilty for eating meat,
you didn't kill it... it would get killed anyway.
they throw away thousands of kilos of meat everyday,
because there is more produced than actually needed.
as long as this is the case, you might as well eat along.
but don't eat too much because it's poisoned with antibiotics, steroids...
(meat from biologically raised animals is less unhealthy!)
and simply because too much of anything is bad for you.
i try to eat maximum 4 to 5 times per week either fish or meat.
I don't drink milk or eat cheese or use eggs,
to have as less animal stuff in my body as possible.
I drink organic soy milk with added calcium extracted from seaweed,
to supply me with calcium.

I don't feel any more spiritual, but then, I'm kind of missing out on the meditation and regular exercise.

This illustrates exactly whats wrong with society in terms of the meat question... No one ever kills their own bloody meat!!! Therefore no one knows what it takes to kill another animal, hang it and cure it by draining its blood, chopping it up into bite sized bits for the consumer...
Dont eat along with the rest and maybe you will open people to new ideas about food, and challenge the paradigm
Why eat anything that is poisoned with anitbiotics or sterioids?... is someone making you eat it?..

people have been eating meat & fish as far back as time goes.
besides the toxins,
there's also some good stuff in meat that the body likes...
i obviously am not a genius when it comes to food,
but i spoke with many people who eat Macrobiotic (and are well educated when it comes to food)
and they say that some people do need meat/fish.
so if you don't eat too much of the stuff,
i figure it's not that bad. (i may be wrong :) )
today it's almost impossible to live healthy.
everywhere in the city there is radiation from cellphones, cell-masts, wi-fi, etc...
there is poison in the air from factories, cars, etc.
even though i eat meat, i am not happy with the killing of animals myself.
but at the moment i can't go vegan, and i won't feel guilty because of it.
i don't kill, i just recycle what would otherwise be thrown away.
not guilty i hope :)

I am doing more exercise of late though, part of this could be to do with the preparation for the higher vibration...........

Agree entirely. I once had a job collecting cow skins from slaughter houses when I was younger. The meat industry is a very bloody business. If people saw how there nicely packaged meat in Tesco's really got there alot of people wouldn't eat meat again. The way I see it is if you wouldn't kill it yourself, which most people wouldn't, you shouldn't eat it.

It's true. It does raise your vibration and it's not a placebo effect. I'm not vegan or vegetarian though I'm seriously considering becoming one. I don't need to kill animals in order to survive and I'd sooner not be responsible for unecesary suffering on other creatures. Only problem is meat tastes very nice and is filling and it's a hard thing to remove from your diet because it's everywhere you go.

Ok, although I've hearde pretty good arguements from both sides. Wheather veganism is good for you or not. I see it like this...
You're not going to live forever, so why should you be bothered about if it's "good for you" or not?

True we're not going to live forever, but I'd sooner spend the last years of my life mentaly and physicaly fit and not wearing a nappy, than living a pittyful exstistance rotting in an old peoples home. Not that eating meat will necesarily make you end up like this, but ignoring the things that are good for you will.
Also there's more to it than just health. The animals that eventualy end up on our plate have to go through alot of suffering because of it.

I wasn't meaning that you should or shouldn't eat meat. I just look at the fact that, you make your own choices in life. What's right for you, isn't right for another.
Bacon butties the downfall or bane of many a veggie .What is it about the good old pig that makes people salavate so much .The pigs skin is almost identical to humans and the spinal column virtually the same as are the arrangements of the internal organs , i read which is why they liked to use them in neclear test areas to see the affects on human bodies .:eek:I was veggie for a couple fo years and felt loads better ,then went back to eating the odd ! bacon butty and steak pie but not often , you should eat what you feel you need and not feel guilty about it .But the diary stuff is deffinately dodgey and needs avoiding i think , lots of nuts seeds etc give protien so we dont technically need meat ,i havent had the odd craving for it i used to have now im eating more nuts and berries etc . macrobiotic diet is good the western diet is crap and designed to attack your metabolism on so many levels .:D

all ppl gotta know,
is when you cook you food, you really are destroying the real nutritious value of food
no other lifeform on earth 'cooks' their food, they are in their respective place in the food chain
are the carnivores, not only kill their food, but eat it RAW, blood and guts and everything
when you pork lovers, or beef eaters enjoy that steak, just know your not even getting the nutritious value, all its doing is just filling you up
for me , an animals life compared to my choice of 'taste' of food,
the animals life takes higher precedent
theres alot of other foods that taste good, that dont require slaughtering animals,
theres 'fast food' conspiracy, with 90% of eating places have like 99% meat/animal product menu
meat hasnt been eaten by man since time immomorial

I turned vegan just over two weeks ago and have never felt better! I'd never realised before just how nice vegan cuisine can be, mainly because I'd never even given it a chance. I feel a lot more energetic and alert than I ever used to as well. There's no turning back from this...
