U.S. Navy Awards Raytheon $368 Million in Contracts for Standard Missile-6
The U.S. Navy has awarded Raytheon contracts totaling $368 million, with potential modifications for low-rate initial production to manufacture Standard Missile-6 (SM-6) systems over a three-year period. The contracts include the production of missiles, spare parts, and system and design engineering efforts. The first missiles will be delivered in early 2011.

Our schemes
We run 5 main schemes nationwide; First Edition, Go4SET, Engineering Education Scheme (England), Headstart and The Year in Industry. Our schemes target 11-21 year olds and aim to provide a real life exposure to industry, business and higher education. We want to help students make informed choices at key stages in their education.
Go4SET – Environmentally themed 10 week science, technology, engineering and mathematics projects for Year 8/9 & S2 (12-14yr old) pupils.
Engineering Education Scheme (England and Scotland) – Real life 6 month science, engineering and technology projects for Year 12/S5 (16-17yr old) students.
Headstart – Science, engineering and technology experience courses at university for Year 12 & S5 (16-17yr old) students.
The Year in Industry – Career development work placements for Pre-University and Undergraduate students.
First Edition – One-day science, technology, engineering and mathematics events for Year 7–10, with the current focus on pupils who will be ‘first in family’ to consider higher education.

President Barack Obama hosted the winners of the 2010 Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Competition in the Oval Office on June 28. It was the 10th straight year that the winners were honored at the White House.
Honorees included MATHCOUNTS national individual champion Mark Sellke and runner-up Shyam Narayanan, as well as the national championship team from California and their coaches. The 2010 Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Competition took place May 7, 2010, in Orlando. Raytheon will serve as the competition’s title sponsor through 2014.
Words of Encouragement
President Obama praised the finalists for their outstanding achievements and commitment to academic excellence, and recognized the volunteer coaches for their invaluable service to the MATHCOUNTS program. The president also encouraged the students to continue to develop their special abilities in mathematics for both themselves and the good of the nation.
"That President Obama took the time to recognize the achievements of these outstanding students is a testament to the importance of math education in this country,” said Lou DiGioia, MATHCOUNTS executive director. “We know the president is a big proponent of mathematics literacy, and we're honored by his administration's support."
MathMovesU Initiative
Raytheon’s support of MATHCOUNTS is a component of its MathMovesU program, an initiative designed to engage U.S. middle school students in math and science through interactive learning programs, contests, events, scholarships, tutoring programs and more. The MathMovesU scholarship and grant program alone provide more than $1 million in annual funding to students and teachers.

Raytheon working with Disney World:

WASHINGTON, Oct 14 (Reuters) - A new ride at Disney's Epcot Center that lets guests use math tools to design their own roller-coaster, bobsled or plane ride and then "feel" it using sophisticated simulators is Raytheon Co's (RTN.N) latest attempt to attract students to careers in math and science.
Raytheon and Walt Disney Co (DIS.N) unveiled the new ride, "The Sum of All Thrills" at the Disney World Resort in Orlando on Wednesday after nearly two years of work on the project.

Raytheon makes use of children's well-exercised thumbs:

Raytheon Universal Control System creates a new rule of thumb
The endless hours that children spend playing computer games is not, as many parents suspect, a waste of time but rather training for a future career as a fighter pilot.
Thumb dexterity will become a key skill for tomorrow's pilots as they take control of the multimillion-dollar unmanned drones that are likely to take over from manned fighters.
The current generation of children will clock up an estimated 10,000 hours of “thumb time” on games consoles by the time they start looking for jobs and Raytheon, the American defence company, is hoping to take advantage of the skills developed.
The company is developing a system for controlling unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) using X-Box and Nintendo Wii technology. The current fleet of UAVs, such as the £30 million Predator, which the United States Air Force and Royal Air Force have deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq, are normally controlled by a single joystick and keyboard instructions.
