BBC News, Wednesday, 21 February 2007

Men in parts of Tanzania's main city, Dar es Salaam, are living in fear of a night-time sex attacker.

A BBC correspondent says the attacks are being blamed by some on a demon called "Popo Bawa" meaning winged bat.

Some men are staying awake or sleeping in groups outside their homes. Others are smearing themselves with pig's oil, believing this repels attacks.

Reports of the demon's existence have been common for many years in Zanzibar, where locals claim it originated.

The BBC's John Ngahyoma in Dar es Salaam says not many people actually believe that the demon exists and there have been no sightings.

But Mbaruku Ibrahim, who hails from Zanzibar, says the story of the demon is common there and people in his village on Pemba island sleep beside a huge fire outside their houses whenever it is said to appear.

The story goes that the bat is able to transform itself into a man at night and it has also been blamed for rapes of women.

Sheikh Yahya Hussein, a prominent astrologer in Tanzania, claims that the demon is a spirit that is unleashed by witches to torment their opponents.

Belief in witchcraft and superstitions is widespread in Tanzania, especially in rural areas.

I have heard of this happen in the Philippines and Mexico as well.

Thats an interesting post. I wonder if its some kind of shape shifting reptilian type thing, or just something coming up from the inner earth running wild. You never know in this strange world.

The story goes that the bat is able to transform itself into a man at night ...

A demon that can shape-shift into a man. Hmmm ...

Reminds of the strange animals that started appearing recently in the southern USA. They're not bats though. The possible connection (for me anyway) is that these other animals also seem "underworldly" in that they drink blood, have long fangs and are very strange looking. Sort of cross between a dog, a rat and a kangaroo. And, they move by hopping on all fours!

Here's a picture of a dead one:
http://www.lostworldmuseum.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/Reggie%20Lagow%20Aug.2005%20Chupacabra%20copyright %202006.jpg

and here's a live one:
http://www.lostworldmuseum.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/11/Concannon%20Chupa7%20copy.jpg

These animals reportedly attack chickens and other fowl but do not eat them. They drink the blood only.

"Scientists" have dismissed these as coyotes or foxes or "unknown canines" but these do not explain their hopping movement and other characteristics. Witnesses also say that dogs will not approach these animals alive or dead. One witness also said that when killed they begin to decay immediately and their tissue crumbles away if touched.

Like the bat demon mentioned above I'm wondering if maybe these are underworld type animals (or 4th dimension?) that are beginning to become visible to us?

If so, I would expect to see more weird creatures in the coming years.

Weird, huh?

Read some of Credo Mutwa's interviews (not the Reptillian Agenda) that were transcribed and put on the net. He talks about a creature which he calls tokoloshe or tikiloshe running around in Afrika. He describes this as an angry looking tedy bear (humanoid) about 4 feet in height (ewok?).

Tikoloshe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Strangely enough, when he went to Hawai he found that the they have the same creachure over there as well, and they call it the tiki-as in tikiloshe, which is what they call it in Afrika. They described this creature doing the same things as well.

He also mentiones bigfoot in Afrika (Chewbakka?), as well as numerous aliens and other creatures. I think he said something like there are 24 different human species.

Here's an interview:

Father Ted, the Deros (detrimental Robots) look like teddy bears too, they have underground caverns (hollow earth). related info below.

In Australia we have an urban legend called a "Drop bear" supposed to be a koala bear with sharp teeth that can kill a man, I have wondered now after reading about the Deros wether the legend of the drop bear may have come from them, the Deros.

I'm from Australia too, and the only time I've heard of the drop bears was in that beer comercial and a few other times but I thought they were refering to koalas because koalas can drop from the tree at hights, I think that's how they preffer to get down. These drop bears sound interesting, do you have any links, preferably with pictures?

Deros, that's a funny name to call them. We have a lot of deros in Adelaide and "detrimental robots" is a perfect way to describe them, haha they are stoopid and dangerous and should be stayed away from.:D

I thought drop-bears were just something Aussie's teased unsuspecting foreign tourist to 'watch out for'?

I don't have a link to "drop bears" but was told by several people growing up that is what they were, I am not sure if the two are related.
A lot of Urban Legends start somewhere, I thought maybe this is where it started. (the deros)
LOL I used to be terrified of any koalas after hearing of the "drop bears"

The town where I grew up there was another creature that a few of the "old timers" used to talk about, a creature that looked like a wombat but walked like a man, it never got a name but sounds like a Dero too.

Could be something from inner earth too Ted, there are heaps of mythical creatures we know very little if anything about and may never really know :)

Just an update on this comment I made earlier:

I didn't realize at the time that this subject (blood sucking demons, chapacabras, etc.) is mentioned in one of David's books. It is in "The Biggest Secret" chapter "don't mention the reptiles" which I am finally reading now. These are underworld type creatures, which explains why they are constantly debunked by "scientists."

I figured the wind would jostle this balloon if it's a balloon. I suppose it's weighted for balance some how?

It could be an object suspended from a balloon. Out of shot. The wire wouldn't be seen from that distance.

The thing certainly looks like it's drifting like a hot air balloon would, same speed, same sort of straight trajectory.

It certainly isn't zig zagging about.
