We've heard a lot about the dangers of Tetra signals that the energency services are using. I use radioes to communicate though, but I'm a hospital porter so I talk to people much closer. For this reason we're only using shortwave radioes. Are these dangerous?

All RF is potentially dangerous regardless of the frequency, remember you only create RF while transmitting. Whats the RMS power output on the RF? Run around 3w into it and you safe as houses run 3000w into it and you wouldn't want to stand next to it for long periods.

Shortwave radio operates between the frequencies of 3 MHz (3,000 kHz) and 30 MHz (30,000 kHz) whats the frequency on the sets you use? It will tell you on the radio the frequency and the power output RF. I would imagine its in the upper regions of the shortwave spectrum.

Thing is with the Tetra system its not always an open Carrier while in transmission mode it sends packets so in a way its a trade off.

Dont loose sleep over your walkie talkie it ain't going to give you another head. The old police systems were much more powerful and their dosent seem to be any sickness epidemic in old bill.
