Police said the SUV's roof was sliced through after a twisted piece of metal about 16 inches long fell from the sky.
When fire personnel arrived on the scene at the Happy Harry's pharmacy on Main Street in Stanton, the metal was smoldering and still too hot to handle, police said.
"I was shopping in Happy Harry's here, came out to my car and noticed a bunch of stuff on my front seat," said the car's owner, Susan Wilson. "When I looked up, there was a big hole right in the top of my car. So, I got out to find out what the hole was and found a big, hot metal bar lying on my back floor."
A man told Wilson he heard a noise but didn't see anything and didn't know where the noise came from.
"I'm assuming it fell out of the sky," Wilson said.
Nobody was in the vehicle at the time, and no one was injured.
"I'm pretty upset," Wilson said. "My insurance company wants me to pay for it. They can't get out to see the car until tomorrow. So, nobody seems to be wanting to do anything about the big metal bar in my back seat. I'm a little unhappy."
The bride-to-be is getting married this weekend and had some bags packed for her honeymoon inside the vehicle.
"I'm glad it didn't hit my luggage," she said.
The Federal Aviation Administration has been contacted, Delaware State Police said.
