This is a theory from a friend of mine about the ages the world went through. He says that the world went through four ages based on who had the power and control over the world.

The Age of the Warriors

This Age encompasses most of our pre-history and up to the Bronze Age. It’s characterised for being ruled by the sword and brute force. Those who had a military advantage would dominate the world. Being a warrior was everything in this Age, where force was synonymous with power.

The Age of the Philosophers

This Age was born in ancient Greece and encompasses most of the classical period. During this Age, philosophers had the power; reason and logic meant everything. You could be the poorest of human beings, with absolutely no physical strength, and yet your word could be as powerful as that of the richest man or the most powerful warrior.

The Age of the Priests

This Age started along with monotheistic religions, and became predominant after the birth of Christianity. During this Age the priests had all the power, no one held a higher position of authority than the priests; not even warriors, wealthy men or even Kings. Every reasoning and justification was based on religious beliefs, and the higher up the religious hierarchy the most powerful you were.

The Age of the Merchants

This is our current Age and started during the times of the Enlightenment. During this Age money and wealth was everything. The merchants (bankers, industrialists and other business men) had all the power, no one would be listen or even taken into consideration unless he was wealthy. Wealth was synonymous with fame and acceptance, and the wealthier the more powerful you were.
