I have an honest question for all of you.

How do you know that what you know is THE truth?

Think about it before you answer because it is a serious question. Most of us quote from somebody else's books, lectures, whatever it may be. You have to learn something from somewhere because this is the way the world is built. You don't come into this world knowing... you come trusting that what you are told is the truth. So in a way all of us are delusional to think that without evaluating. Since we don't have time to do that we just pushing dogmas. Religious people push religious dogmas, and "non-religious" push the anti-religious dogmas. And everybody is so sure and they KNOW what they are talking about, yet everybody is so ful of shit! It's amazing :) Many people on this forum have no concern for the truth, but only interested in proving themselves right. Getting something intriguing and unverifiable and controversial to talk about, which in regular conversation will essentially accomplish nothing. Hell, I was the same way not so long ago. I would try to spark interest in anyone I talk to and try to lay out my version of reality to them. I did not care what they wanted.... and then it came to me! I'm full of shit! I was only interested in people so they can agree with me, because that's what I needed the most for others to agree with me and confirm that what I belive is the truth. The more people agreed with me ... the more I would feel confident that I had the truth :).

But then pretty much entire world agreed a couple years ago that earth rotates around the sun, and they burned people who disagreed with them. Today we don't burn these, but we just sorn them. Saying you are an idiot to believe so, because it simply can not be. I was doing the same thing when I believed that evolution is a "prove fact", I was doint the same thing when I thought that the communism is a way to go (growing up and brainwashed by communism system)... and what am I doing now? I think that I finally learned that I don't know jack. That I don't have any means to know anything but the things that are immidiately around me. So I think it is wise to be open to possibilities rather than going around trying to prove people wrong or right. Socrates died defending that he knew nothing! How ironic, he would swollow poison before he would lie to himself that he knew anything.
Reading stuff on this board I wounder what he would say? Can't you see how naive you are to mistake information for truth? I hope that there's God because otherwise it's hard to find any truth in this world. It's nothing but confusion. Unfortunatly there's no real way to know if there's God other than jumping off the bridge. So why all the talk for or against? Decide for yourself and live up to it. Don't you see that by arguing against religion you are doing exactly what you claim it is doing - trying to manipulate the minds of others into accepting a worldview - your worldview? I'm not asking you to belive or even listen to me. All I'm asking you is to find something that YOU belive and live up to it not worrying about what others believe or think. Goes for both religious and non-religious people. I realize that It's a peice of my worldview that I'm sharing, but in essence nothing really matters outside of myself and it is to myself that I'm speaking essentially. Because that's the only person thought of which I'm in control - me.

That's not strictly accurate ;) but I can see a lot of sense in what you just posted though :) although I dont agree with all of it. I only found this place a couple of days ago...but there does seem to be a lot more hate than love posted.

Hello fccool

I think ultimately, to define truth you must have evidence otherwise its belief or faith in a theory (in response to your original question).

In terms of religion, I believe that everyone has the spark of the divine within them. I've heard it called the Christ Light to. Mankind has always believed in a God figure but it has manifested itself into different belief systems. I think because it is 'hardwired' into us, it beomes a very personal thing and has been demonstrated in history, mankind is willing to go to war to defend this personal thing and attack those who's belief system differs to their own.

So in terms of knowing the truth when it comes to a divine power or God, the definition of truth is what you feel to be true to you at any one given time. To be able to debate this, I believe, is a very healthy thing and is important to one's development but as it is such a personal thing, mankind will defend it vigorously!

I feel that as long as you can find the common ground (the shared belief in a divine being) you have a good foundation on which to debate your views without it getting out of hand. The problem with the written word is that it can often be read in the wrong context and you have to keep that in mind when reading and responding.

I've not long been awake so I hope I've been able to articulate myself :P

Did you know that the B.I.B.L.E. stands for Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth?

Holy men who were moved by the Holy Spirit.

2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost.
