I've only been into these types of research for about a year. For those of you who have been following conspiracy-related stuff for a long time, maybe in the 80's or 90's, whatever....I know not everyone believes an awakening is happening/coming, but aside from the "now"....Has there been a time before, where people say "Everyone is waking up to this" and "They can no longer deny it". Like, couple decades ago, were people saying that any minute now there will be a revolution?

it's AN awakening,,, one of many. Mankind has awoke to many things in the past -- en-mass and individually.
Unfortunately, mankind tends to go back to sleep again. But still this awakening is interesting

i think the biggest 'awakening' in modern history occured in the 60's, personally, where the world found itself in a place of new thoughts and new concepts, and i believe that the current awakening began then, as more and more people opened themselves up to different dimensions of thought and awareness. what has occurred in the last 50 years is an awakening that has grown exponentially, and continues to grow, and that we are now on the cusp of full Self realisation, the 100th monkey critical mass seems to be just around the corner.
i think that awakening has taken a few knock backs, particularly in the 80's with a drive toward ego and material benefit, and the economic crisis that over shadows the world seems to be a direct correlation of that rise, the two seem very interlinked in my mind, and the height of the climb throughout the 80 seems perfectly mirrored by the trough the world is climbing out of right now.
But still that exponential growth of awareness speeds up and continues to grow, almost like an evolution of the spirit, and i think we will continue to see it's growth - and that 2012 is a hugely prominent date to be aware of of that growth, maybe even the time of critical mass awakening, not in a physical sense as has been expected but in a sense of awareness and understanding of the Self.
Probably not the answer that you were looking for, but i am just saying what i think has been happening, from a personal understanding.
