Last night I sat in a totally dark room with the window open looking at the very bright clear moon with my naked eyes and with binoculars.
I had taken a melatonin supplement previously and I have noticed a sensitivity to light on it for certain reasons. So looking at the moon was quite an unusual experience, especially because I did for a good 30 minutes.
I was torn between two perspectives. From one, I wanted just to appreciate the vastness of our world, how a moon can be visible from here and how its light or reflected light shines down quite brilliantly at times. It was a Zen sort of thing, enjoying the universe without forming concepts about it in the mind. But from the other perspective I had all these theories about the moon in mind. What if I am not looking at the moon but what they say it is? It appeared to be such an immediate presence last night, as if demanding attention.
After a while I felt quite creeped out by it. Perhaps it was just the night time and the stillness of it, but I began to feel the moon was an entity and I was being rude staring at it.
So... any experiences in looking at the moon for longer than usual? Are many of you very natural people (like do you get away from the cities and such and 'back to nature' when you can and re-connect)? I ask that because I know that when you become more natural in that way there is a tendency to fall into harmony with life and live simply like a deer or whatever, so in such a state one would just see the moon as the moon, without drifting in thought about it.
