This is a chance to show TPTB exactly what you think of them, and their system......

weather you have a cuase... or are the causeless outsider sidelined by society.... join, rejoice, dance in the street, protest, party...MAKE YOURSELF HEARD.

Protesting, rallying and alike is what they want us to do, so they can pen us in and make us angry, push us to the point and then riot..

It's what they want us to do, it would be playing right into their plans.

It would be better if EVERYONE just stopped going to work, sat down and had a large picnic to piss TPTB off.

Violent revolutions usually replace the old systems with new ones built on the 'energies' of violence that spawned it. ;)

depends which city your going to....

London is normaly fairly confruntational...

Glasgow fairly peacfull - unwritten agreement with the police - we do what we want as long as nothing gets broken....

Nottingham is normaly a carnival-type atmosphere..... rally in the parc, march on the streets then food, beer and bands in the park.

One moto of Mayday is BRING WHAT YOU EXPECT TO FIND.

The Awakening....What Can We Do?

Beltaine, the Celtic fire festival to welcome Spring is also on the Eve of Mayday......

http://www.urban75.org/mayday02/history.html

"History of Mayday
From from Ourmayday.org.uk, April 2002

The Ancient Origins of Mayday

Mayday originated as a pagan festive holy day celebrating the first spring planting. The ancient Celts and Saxons celebrated May 1st as Beltane, which means the day of fire. Bel was the Celtic god of the sun. The Saxons began their Mayday celebrations on the eve of May, April 30.

It was an evening of games and feasting celebrating the end of winter and the return of the sun and fertility of the soil. Torch bearing peasants and villagers would wind their way up paths to the top of hills or mountain crags and then ignite wooden wheels, which they would roll down into the fields below.

The May eve celebrations were eventually outlawed by the Catholic Church, but were still celebrated by peasants until the late 1700's. While good church going folk would shy away from joining in the celebrations, those less afraid of papal authority would don animal masks and various costumes.
"

******** The PTB have always tried to surpress the pagan religeon and festivitys.... this is inexticably liked to Beltain / Mayday...... they attempt to disconnect us from the natural world, the cycle of life, and any ancient intuitive spiritual connection.

The Awakening - What Can We Do?

Take this chance, and celebrate.... there is no dogma in Mayday - its a rag-tag bunch of vaguely interconnected groups with various causes... everyone is welcome - all that are disolusioned for whatever reason - use this day to make your statement.

OR.... at the very least - a chance to dance in the streets - something incase you missed the point is outlawed.

A rave is always an option..problem is any one who has a sound system probably wants to keep it..

ahhh those were the days

when I lived in Glasgow, Mayday used to end with 2/3 soundsystems in Kelvingrove Park.... never a problem with the police - nobodys causing trouble, and nobodys smashing McDonalds windows.

Easy way round the plod conviscating the soundsystem - have a 'hire reciept' from someone who isnt with the system.

Awakening - what can we do?

Not much - armchair hypothesis about change..... action speaks louder than words.

thats the basic idea - modern Mayday was bourn out of workers struggling to get the working day limited to 8 hours........

its on a Saturday this year, but the day changes every year - its normaly on a working day.

excuse the delay.....

Nottingham Mayday was marvelous - fairly conservative and respectful, but wondefrull none the less.

Strating out in Victoria Park, with various organisations setting u8p stalls and leafleting......

the march headed off at noon... lead by the Urban Gypsies - a belly dancing troup with a mobile soundsystem.... closely followed by Nottingham Samba band.

Between the samba band and the belly dancers, they kept the march dancing along the streets.

Not a great turn out... I would say 300 at the very most, but enough to bring the city to a temprary standstill.

Not exactly revolutionary - more of a statement of subversion.
