Wearing clothes and accesories to climatize yourself to the weather/temperature/environment IS.

I admit though I always wear something that I think is appropriately outstanding.

unfortunately in this life first impressions do count, and even if you are the most amazing person to know, how many people would bypass you if you walked round resembling a hobo?
And before you start writing me hate mail this is, i agree, a terribly shallow way of thinking. I will also point out this is not my way, unfortunately it is the majority of societies

Somewhat true, but it works reversely as well. A woman who values something deeper than the superficial will not tolerate a supposedly 'good looking' guy for too long before she leaves him for not having more to offer other than the ability to be a trophy husband.

Of course you're not suggesting that good looking guys can't be beautiful on the inside too, right ;)

I'm sure there are many who are pretty inside too lol, but what I mean is if he happens to be one who isn't then perhaps there are women out there who would only tolerate him for so long.

I challenge this idea to its core. Beauty is very important. And is a necessary attribute of consciousness.

Beauty is every where apparent in line, harmony and proportion, function and form. Be aware of Symmetry.
What is excellent is pleasing to the eye and to the soul. Beauty is the essence of life.
Surely all the pleasing forms life takes from the surprising animals, powerful trees and vibrant landscapes - is no accident.

beauty is not just "looking good", it implies value of the highest order.

Question..
what makes inner beauty then??

cos we all know what looks/ feels good on the outside but how do we define inner beauty?

At the end of the day of course its good to look good!... why would it not be?

the question is who decides what's good looking and what is not?

we have been trained to view what's good looking and what's not good looking.... when in reality its just a persons view.

there is no sliver platter that states what's good looking and what's not.... you can see a picture of a girl naked looking like a sex goddess... but why does she look good? ... because she caters for the needs and insecurities that men in this society are made to crave.... thus view it as beauty... which is why normally when you get your meat it does not taste as good as it used to... and that beauty no longer works...

I think looking good as a case of just looking like what you are.

Very well put!

I don't see too much of a problem in doing certain things to enhance your natural good looks (ie. nice, correct-fitting clothes, decent haircut etc..) so long as it doesn't become over the top or obsessive. The key is to keep it low-key and natural looking. People who have had lots of plastic surgery or smother themselves in fake tan, for example, make me cringe & it's so obvious.

I certainly don't have a stereotype of the kind of person I find attractive/beautiful - I have an appreciation for many different people with different appearances. Which is as it should be too.

i mean, if you got to start slicing your face apart to make your self feel better, chances are you got a confidence issue! :)

that being said I half understand people involved in show biz doing it to further their careers... but again people only do this to conform to what's expected... when the reality shows that sometimes people with a big nose... or with small breasts... actually do the job!.. because they believed in them sefls and not the system.

looks is everything, image is king. look i shave, wear a nice suit, nice watch, shirt, cuff links, expensive clothes, people can feck off, because they can't afford it, people treat me differently. if i dress how i would like, eg baggy jeans, cap, hoodie/tracksuit top, have stubble, a grungy/hip hop mix, people look down on me. its actually " a pavlovian reponse ", the media has programmed it into them. ask yourself how many great people, eg artists, scientists, revolutionaries wore armani, prada ?

its utter bullshit, but thats life. i grew up in the 90's, with kurt cobain and 2pac, so this new era of youth are, well they ain't got no real music/movements, its all manufactured/pop idol shit. they still living off my generation, lol old school is the old, because it lasts, stands the test of time, like wine, gets better with age, it don't fade. fashion fades, style remains, class is permanent, form temporary, etc.

however if you know they are programmed, use it to your advantage, play/beat them at their own game. i personally like guaging peoples reaction to different stimuli, so sometimes i dress smart sometimes like a tramp, its awesome. i even drive a normal car when i could drive a japanese import, the way people treat you is so different.

they are programmed, uncultured, consumers. ask them about art, history. poetry, politics, anything of substance, they giva a vacant look. ask them whats new in the mall/magazines, they will talk for ages, ooh browns the new black (clothes), this celebs fucking this celeb, yada fucking yada. us indians say brown/tan is the new white, everyone wants to be it, lol ( this is a joke, peeps)

I agree it's not important.

However...

Purposefully wearing expensive clothes,
Obsessing about hair, makeup, looks, physique etc
In order to 'prove' yourself = Ego.

Purposefully wearing raggy clothes,
Making yourself look scruffy, unkempt
Or mutilating yourself to purposefully
Detract from 'conventional beauty'
In order to 'prove' yourself = Ego.

part of the humans role on this world is to decide what is good and what is evil. we decide and express what is good or not and what looks good or not, what is beauty, what is ugliness. this is not standard, it changes at will. you can change it by deciding something different and expressing it, then your dimension shifts.

you always put it well synergy, If we can use LOA and attract nice things and look good why shouldnt we? we have a right to show it off, were living in this capitalist society after all and flaunting ones nice clothes/ car etc in public may put questions in the mids of people that dont have what i/ we have and they may educate themselfs on the history of money, bankers and politics, LOA etc etc (im slightly off topic in that im talking about possesions rather than natural looks)

really like this tho.. "old school is the old, because it lasts, stands the test of time, like wine, gets better with age, it don't fade. fashion fades, style remains, class is permanent, form temporary, etc." :)

this thread is the result of trying to understanding the EGO of a person and its role

its the ego that cares about appearence and vanity

use it as a litmus test to see how far we have to to go still on our journey towards an egoless consciousness

My 2p on beauty, aesthetics, attraction etc..

Your sense of smell is the principle force that determines whether you find a person attractive. Your brain is able to pick up on whether the person has compatible genes (i.e. different ones) and relays to you it's findings. Obviously it's not the only force, but it's the main one.

Another factor which is unaffected by modern values is cleanliness and hygiene. Slightly less subconscious than smell, but we choose partners on whether they are clean (and therefore healthy). Again there are exceptions. Some women see baldness as a sign of virility, but I doubt few view acne in the same way, despite both being related to the same hormones.

Lastly, the sociological changes of the last 150years have created a more permissive and competitive environment, with people having more sexual partners than ever, and most relationships are of the non-committed type. Therefore, people go to greater lengths to make themselves more attractive, seem younger, etc..

And my opinion...? Let people do whatever the fuck they wanna do.

If a person dresses or presents themselves in a certain way, they will live with the reactions they receive.

The most important thing to me is intelligence, whether in acquaintances, friends or lovers. I'll admit one of my weaknesses is my intolerance of stupid people, but it just pisses me off more than anything. It's how I know God doesn't exist.

I'll finish with a few quotes.

"I have a message to deliver to the cute people of the world... if you're cute, or maybe you're beautiful... there's MORE OF US UGLY MOTHERF*CKERS OUT THERE THAN YOU ARE!! So watch out."
Frank Zappa

"Some scientist say that the major building block of the universe is hydrogen because it's the most plentiful element but my theory is the universe is made of stupidity because it is MORE plentiful than hydrogen."
Frank Zappa

And my personal favourite:

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Get it out with Optrex."
Spike Milligan
