Virgin is someone who has no history of relationship with anybody. That means, (s)he doesn't have any memories that will pop up when you are with him/her.Therefore, (s)he will learn love from you and you only. Is that clear?

There are also spiritual sides to it. Virgin means pure. Therefore, not mixed with ego, desires... etc. It is flawless beauty. That is why they are like ruby, pearl... etc. These items are unique. So, you are not getting a crown with rubies, you are getting the ruby itself. Get it?

No rapunzel. You are approaching from material perspective. Women are not to be owned. Women are gifts, because they are precious to men. So, Allah emphasizes the importance of women. It is not for to say, "they are yours, do what you want".

You must know, noone can do whatever (s)he wants. Only one who is purified enters the heaven. In Quran Allah says that He removes all those things from people before they enter there. Allah also says, people who enter in heaven say each other "Peace" only.

i seem to recall a hadith where a brave woman asked the prophet about widows or unmarried women and such and he said that it would be like and like, or that they would also be paired with agreeable partners

personally coming from a much more mystical meditative perspective i find all this stuff to be absurd and ridiculous

discussing it is like talking about a bizarre tv show for me

also, a note on my long post, i think it might be a bit unforgivingly controversial in the lack of condemnation of the qur'an's love of the houri thing but that is just because i can see it in its context and there is not that much problem in it ... consider that in arabia life must have been harsh, they lived in cities like mecca and medina but still within a mile there was desert on all sides, and to travel anywhere meant days to weeks of risky journeying through the desert through the zones that independant clans owned and protected in an ancient way

although at times i get the feeling that mecca and medina may have really been small paradises of sorts in arabia, because it would not be possible otherwise for the prophet's living quarters to be roofed by only a straw thatch sort of thing with enough room for people to see under, if temperatures ever dropped like they do regularly in north america where i am i think their lives would have been much different

seems like when the land is like a paradise, the religious imagination can flourish, like in muhammad who, say what you want about him, was a powerful seer who regularly entered altered states of consciousness and came back not with just awe but words of revelation from some source

otherwise, adhering to religious laws and such become second place when your entire being is intent on something simple but profound like staying warm through the night so you don't die

but heat almost seems to exacerbate those sort of religious feelings

The point is, I interpret the Qur'an as nonsense. Someone else may pick up the book and be completely inspired. "I think it's rubbish" doesn't mean the book itself in reality is rubbish, it just means that's the value I place on it in my personal experience. Hence, personally I think.

Rubbish also means "nonsense", so I wasn't using the term the way you did in that it's forgotten and never thought of. People can quote and talk about books on threads, doesn't mean they have to grant them any validity in the natural order of things. There aren't really any rules as far as one's motivation for posting in a forum, so it's difficult to logically claim that, because I think a book is rubbish I'm contradicting myself by simply talking about it.

I haven't put any amount of extensive study into that book, but the portions I've read have not given me any reason to devote a significant amount of time to it. personally i don't see why there is always such uproar over islam's love of houris
