So thats why you didnt reply to my marriage proposal then.:D :p
Seriously, bailiffs have no legal powers until one of 3 things has happened:
1. they have a warrant
2. you invite them in
3. they have gained previous access through an open window or door, in conjunction with number 1.
If they knock, ignore it. No matter what do not open the door or enter into talks, unless you know they have a warrant then it makes no difference, they're coming in anyway.

I agree. Never, ever let the bailiff in. And ignore whatever they tell you at the door. They will either bullshit you to pretend they have powers that they don't - or they will try to be "nice" and say they want to help you if you'll just let them in to sign this form before the "nasty" bailiffs come with a van.
It's all a trick to get you to let them in. Once they're inside, they can then make what is known as a "walking possession order" and list goods that they want to seize on a future visit.
Please note that once they've done this, they can legally come back and break in to seize your goods. That is why it is so important not to let them in in the first place!

Am I right in that if there's a knock at the door and let's say my other half just opens the door as we all do, the bailift can walk straight in?
Or do you first ask every single person who knocks if they're a bailift through the letter box and if they say they are then tell them to f..k off?
We aren't expecting any bailifts but I'm just a little confused:confused:
Whilst I'm here what if you have a back gate to your garden off a public path, can they just open the gate and waltz in? I ask as I have a back entrance and during the day it's usually unlocked.

Crikey, if you are ever expecting bailiffs, you must lock all doors and keep windows shut. It is illegal for a bailiff to force entry to a property on a first visit but they can and will get in via an open door or window (upstairs windows aren't safe, they have ladders).

one thing that may work??Store all valuables in storage or a friends house. Then replace some of your home items with rubbish items that you found at the tip or perhaps buy very very cheaply......have this in your house...then let them in when they come! They will perhaps collect all this stuff and think they won out on you!Ofcourse you must make out that its so unfair that they are taking that telly(even though it doesnt work) and rubbish furniture you got from the tip....lol

A bailiff attempting to recover unpaid magistrates' courts fines does have the power of forced entry, although this is rare.
Also if money is owed to HMRC and HMRC have obtained a magistrates' warrant a bailiff could force entry, but again this is rarely used.

The truth is it is not as rare as you propose as they lie, cheat and abuse the system.

Great post Dw :D
and good advice.
Unless you have already let the bailiff in they have absolutely no right of entry.
You do not have to answer the door.
You do not have to let them in.
you do not have to answer their questions:
Bailiff: 'are you mr/s liami?'
liami: 'am i obliged to answer your question?'
Bailiff: 'are you mr/s liami or not?'
liami: 'am i obliged to answer your question?'
Bailiff: 'Erm, i have a notice here, are you mr/s liami?'
liami: 'am i obliged to answer your question?'
Bailiff: 'are you mr/s liami or not?'
Etc Etc
liami: 'well, i am terribly busy at the moment, i am on the last level of Call of Duty, and i need to get back to the killing and maiming, i was rather enjoying it, so, please, remove your counternance from my vission, it offends me something rotten, or i will call the police and have them take you away for trespass and breach of the peace, cheers.......'

I know the feeling!
I always wash my hands after opening the mail so as to wash off some of the negative energy (a good prationer recommended doing so).
Also ring up those which you owe money to and explain your circumstances and NEGOTIATE with them (also check that their claims/costs/prices/invoices/bills etc. as it is not unknown for organisations to cock up - on on purpose at times too), and get any agreements backed up in writing. Then if baliffs turn up you can have them removed with 'reasonable force'. They dont have - as others have said - as much authority as they claim - dont let them in!
This is very trunckated - yet I hope that it helps:)

No, when faced with a magistrates' warrant most realise that non payment is perhaps not the best course of action and pay up avoiding a bailiff from forcing entry.
Obviously judgments from CC cases are different.

Ah! sorry if i gave the impression of having a disability or somesuch , i've had depression (supression) for years from trying to fit into the system in order to fulfill a promise to to my wife . It was all going so well an all,got the house ,kids, 2 cars, an i was miserable as sin inside, the relentless nonsense of the movie version of life used to piss me off so much , my ranting reached heroic proportions at times , so i was prescribed ssri' lotsa different types as i kept tellin the doc that they was utter rubbish and in tryin to get my point across to her she reported that i was abusive and out of control, so a course of psychiatric evaluation was proposed, and so i tried that to keep everyone happy, anyway the psychiatrist was a muppet and i wasted no time at all in telling him so. Man i was on the ragged edge. I.. even doubted my sanity at that bleak time, well everyone else did too, so i thought i'd look into it myself ,so i did and was greatly relieved to discover it weren't me, it was everyone else who was nuts. Thus began a voyage of discovery which cured my depression in no time but which has presented challenges the like of which i never anticipated, and i started to use a computer and eventually discovered you lot , and i wasn't alone anymore. why i find it hard getting up sometimes...........i miss my family, my wife dos not want to know about the great conspiracy, still puts aspartame in her coffee, gives my kiddos drinks with that shit in it, ignores all the facts i regale her with , so sometimes i think whats the point tryin to fight . But i still love the silly mare, and my latest realisation is that a broken heart is much like depression except the sadness never ceases, i think thats why somedays i just wanna curl up. most days howevr i'm grand. thanks L:)

I think most of us on here have been thorugh various aspects of all of these things - good for you getting through it and out the other side:)
The sadness will go.
Dont 'fight' as such, as fighting offers resistance - easier said than done I know. remeber the law of attraction:) One has to strive for peace and each and everyone of us has their own path to tread, hopefully you will be able to educate your kids and one day too, yet even they will have choice in the end, hopefully that they will see the truths that you see too.
I like the phrase; 'let go and let God' (I prefer the 'Source').
Meditation, Psche-K, The Lightning Process are all excellent.
The tablets just cause other symptoms, paper over the cracks, or dumb one down.
Look into homeopathy and maybe even such things as St Johns Wort - watch out for sun sensitivity though.

Indeed Liability Orders are nasty things. The only way you can get shot of them is by way of a Judicial Review in the High Court (Magistrates lack jurisdiction to set them aside). That's not cost effective or practicable in most cases.
The best advice is to talk to the bailiffs about getting the debt paid. You don't have to let them in. It's worth remembering they will charge per visit & costs can rapidly escalate.

Bob Dylan gets me through the rough patch's. As for letting go...hmmmmm? and God seems to get his jollies watching humanity suffer, He may have a good explanation but if He expects me to pray for His intercession in our situation He can go fuck Hisself, if He wants summat from me He's gonna havta ask me Himself. I am me ,I am free, but it can be a bit lonesome betimes this freedom lark. Are we here for a reason? are we here for a cause? or are we all just clutching at straws..and i stopped the ssri treatmentwhen i had bust up with the doctor. haven't touched a big pharma product since, thing is i always knew the whole shebang was an illusion before i knew any of the details, and now the one thing i know for sure, is that i know nothing for sure.

I see what you are saying and I am not religious, yet who is Lord of the Earth, Rex Munid, Asmodeus, The Tester, The Trickster? Seek and thee shall find. It isnt the Source that tests us is all that I am saying!
This freefall stage is a huge challenge, I know what you are going through, it is also my belief, that we are in - in loose terms - the end times, things are a changing, let us all hope for the better:)
"Change the way in which you view things and the things that you view will change".
Freedom only really comes from a certain type of obediance - conversley enough. BTW I am not holier than thou, as I am on the path too!

I know of these things, the law of attraction, karma , that we are all one consiousness , and i too believe that a process is taking place in which the end of the age appproaches and i am ready to fulfill whatever role my spirit has accepted for this incarnation , drunvalo melchizedek has an interesting take on the current situation, and it rings true for me, as for who God is, i dunno, but i do know that He/It whatever is real. We are living through interesting times and i,m glad i'm here for it . i'm sorry if i come across as a grouchy fucker .... but i haven't had any for a lonnnnnnnnnnng time :( Oh yeah ! Bailiffs still sending me letters , actually opened one to-day..apparently i must pay up within 7 days or all sorts of bad shit gonna happen:( ....... knew i shuddina opened it :D :(
