I wish the that the forum could be rearranged so that we have one forum where everything is in one place. In other words combine "general" with "Todays News" together with all the rest. We could have one or two (maximum) other subjects such as where all the crap goes (this thread will probably end up in there :D)

It just seems that the lower forums get less viewers and it doesnt seem right cos some important stuff are gonna get overlooked by alot of people. I personally find it hard to keep up with stuff the way it is at the moment.

I havent been on these forums THAT long and I dont presume to know what's best for this forum but it's just an idea. What do you think ?

If everything was in the one forum, I believe it would be much harder to keep up with things, as they would slide away into oblivion real quick..Mind you for some threads that would probably not be a bad thing :D

You might have to go to page 20 to find anything that is of interest to you.

We had a serious clean up a while back, putting things where they belong and it was good. All forums were getting a lot of traffic. Things have been a bit touchy lately and our concentration has been elsewhere a lot of the time.

I, for one, will make an effort later on and try to get it sorted again. You guys can help. If you see a thread in General or News that you believe should be in another category, use that little button and let us know

Maybe if they were condensed to about 3 sections, that seems reasonable

i suppose in other forums theres not a huge wide range of topics quite like this one and i also think mods move threads into proper sections more strictly but i cant see the point its time consuming for everyone if we moved loads of stuff from general into the closest relating catogories.

This is an example of the structure I'm talking about that I think is easy to use :-

I can see your point tho about stuff "sliding into oblivion real quick". I had actually thought of that problem and I do realise this is a difficult dilemma and would take alot of thought because it's obviously important to get it right first time if any changes were made (or not).

Ah well, I figure my time is being consumed being here anyway :D

It is what sean asked us to do and if we leave a three day redirection, it can still be accessed from the original posting. It has now got back to the point of things in general being on page 2 within the hour during heavy traffic times.

I rarely browse forums anyway. I browse new posts, therefore all post in any forum come up and I use CP to access the ones I have subscribed to. If looking for a certain thread I use the search engine.

I had a look and it is a different forum structure to the one we use so I don't think it is viable here :)

I cant see making the whole forum into 3 sections would be any help at all.

If your finding it hard to keep up with the amount of threads, then making it fewer forums would just make important threads drop even further down the pages, as people make new threads.

The Main issue I find is that Todays news and General are been over used, and people are not sorting their post under the correct category. So what we end up with is a mess of issues that are perfectly viable, but stuck in general section and after 1 week you cant find the thread because theres so many new threads.

can easily be solved

Get people to post 1 main thread in the actual section the "news" it is involved in, then they post it in todays news and post the link to the section and thread they made in that section for discussion. I feel were discussing too much in the Todays News and General thread, and this leaves the forum in a very big mess for quick searching of info.

For example cos I dont think I described that very well ;) IF you Have Some recent headline news that you want to form discussion on. Lets say that thread is involved with the Iraq war. Make a post in the - War on Terror section. Copy paste that post and the link to that thread then make a post in the - News section, paste your info into the thread and then at the bottom of that thread Paste the Link to the post you made in the - War on Terror section, and let that be where the discussion is made.

Might work might not, ofc it takes more work and will create even more threads but I do feel a lot of threads are just getting lost in the General and News sections.

Or the Mods can move threads once the thread isnt no longer valid to todays news. Which obviously isnt either an option or just not happening when u see 1200+ threads in todays news and 4500+ threads in General.

Well thats my thought that may help, as always open to ideas and I think this should be discussed.

I'm not trying to say how things should be done or anything just suggesting something that may help people.

Anyway Have fun :)

What you are saying is spot on. If people posted in the correct place in the first place, it would be a big help.

When we cleaned up general, obviously we didn't go through all 4500 posts. Now THAT would be time consuming. We went back a fair way and then redirected old ones IF they popped up again. It doesn't really matter where redundant ones are stored. It is just a concern of the number of current ones in general.

I have to go to work now for a few hours but will definately do some sorting when I come back. Maybe some other mods will move anything that comes to their attention in the meantime :)

When searching the advanced search engine is good value :D
