Here's a great trick.

Start talking to yourself in the past. When you were a little child and going through hard times, start sending your younger self advice - things that seemed bad at the time - tell your self at that time that things will work out and that you are a great person. Love your younger self and send that love to yourself at the times when you needed it. If you had a bad break up, go back and tell yourself it will all work out and that you will find someone better, that it had to happen that way to get yourself to where you are now.

As soon as you realise that you can send advice back to yourself in the past, you can start listening to yourself in the future sending advice to yourself now - this is your intuition, listen to what your intuition is telling you - this is yourself in the future telling you the best options for yourself now. If you get into the habit of talking to your younger self you will start to receive stronger and clearer messages from yourself in the future.

You are your past present and future self all in one. Start talking to yourself in the past and listening to what your future self tells you. You have lived this life already, your future self is guiding you from your subsconcious....by getting into the habit of sending messages back to your younger self NOW you are automatically allowing your future self to communicate with you consciously.

Try it and see, the results are amazing :-)

p.s. everything works out in the end, the more you trust the messages from your future self the faster things will work out the way you want them to ;-)

One time in my life I was going through a "dark night" and had no one to talk to. So I thought, what would I tell a friend that I loved who was in the same situation? The upshot was, I journaled, getting out my feelings and then giving myself advice as though I was my own loving mother/friend. It really helped me immeasurably. Also, in that process I came up with many insights I wouldn't have had if I'd not been writing. Love, angel

Excellent!

This sounds similar to other techniques, including The Lightning Process (advanced) etc.

I've been thinking about this, I reckon it can be expressed in three words:

affirm your life.

I see my life as a generally flat grey mass with hoops poking out here and there, 'hoops' representing moments of lucidity... using techniques such as the OP's it's possible to thread a line through these hoops and pull one's 'self' out of the grey mass.

Affirm your life!

Sounds good, also might get rid of some old bad karma in the process!

Has anyone else found that as they work through there issues present and recent, odd memories of situations that upset you when you were a kid come back now and again?

Do you get the feeling that we not only have to reason ourselves out of all current situations we also have to do it of all our past experiences as well?

I better get to work!

so this doesnt count as a "wacky new age method" for you? :D

yeah you are right i was thinking about this yesterday UW and all i kept getting was memories of fights and it was tricky to be able to tell my former self to just not rise to it. the anger stays with you it seems and forgiving can be a tricky process

cheers IT maybe ill start on that book...:)

Ha, no not really thinking about the past and future is natural. :)

The way I managed (and continue to manage with anger) is through going over the situation again and again, is putting it in a subjective way, so imagine a friend who was in the fight and think what advice you would give them, although this is more difficult with those pesky emotions.

Also thinking that the other person is showing anger through fear.

Here's a possible example - about four months ago I was sat outside having a fag and meditating :-) As I sat with my eyes closed I had a sudden thought that I should play the lottery and 6 numbers came into my head 3,5,17,32,43 and 49 I think. Anyway, I didn't have a pen to write the numbers down and soon forgot the thought. A couple of days later I was in tescos and saw the lottery booth, i thought for a moment and the numbers came back to me. To cut a long story short, I didn't win the lottery that saturday but the next week after match of the day the lottery numbers came up and 5 of the 6 numbers came up.

How did that happen?

i'm definitely going to try this, do you mean that you have been looking at lottery numbers and telling your younger self what they are, just wondering, i'm not going to do this just because of this last post, i think it's good advice and wonderful stuff to meditate on.

Where does the voice of thought travel to?

any ideas how this relates to the 'mind'?

Where do your thoughts come from? Mind is the perceiver of perception.
