John Stewart and Colbert are left-wing jesters, partisan stooges. I'm glad they shredded Beck, but that's what they are paid to do.

I find Stewart hilarious (less so Colbert) and have a copy of his commencement address on my computer because it cracks me up. Besides entertainment value however, no partisan hackery is full of win. In the final analysis, the Daily Show is a useful component to keep us trading blows across the aisle and pointing fingers. It is today's Roman circus.
