Does anyone know much about alternative communities/ communes in the UK?

Ever since I was a child, I have always longed for a different way of life, had deep respect for and felt drawn towards the native peoples of the world.

It does sound like an airy-fairy pipe-dream to most, but why not?

It is very likely that most of the population will become more harmonious with Gaia again. Actually i believe and feel that is happening NOW. Unfortunately, do not know of any places off hand.

I feel the same way as you... been wanting to get away from all of this, the system everything... I looked into it, I've heard there are communes, but I dont think they exactly advertise on the web, you know. Let me know if you find one... otherwise we'll start up our own village somewhere. not england, though, please... somewhere nicer :P

I just do not want to end up in a commune like portrayed in the movie The Wicker Man. I loved their simple ways of living off of the land in the midst of beautiful nature, but they were a cult. I am very fascinated with the Victorian era, but cannot fancy myself wearing those corsets.

I think everybody whom has been in touch with their soul has longed for a nicer place to reside in while theyre around... the matter of fact is this is what we were given to work with. We will make of life what we will, but we still have to utilise and share the tools we have all been blessed with even if we could create better given chance...

It could be the natives infact acted upon similar thoughts to your own hence their histories and unfortunately theres no way to survive outside of the system comfortably in todays age. So my friend I wish you the best in your journey and Im as sure for your destiny as I am my own that we will with patience not only find a suitable way to uphold and pass forth, but live with tranquility and love our lively experiences down here on earth.

All the best

Hi LISW

I've also had a similar longing for many years now.

I know that there is a tipi village in Wales (Carmarthen) & have just googled it & came across this website below, which seems to have lots of places listed. It looks quite good & I'm gonna check it out in more detail shortly....:)

Hey Dan the Man :)

How're you doing honey?

Hehe I see you have an interest in this too!:D I'm gonna check out that site I just posted above, in a bit more detail & see what's about.

I know what you're saying about not wanting to be in the UK, that's another thought I've been toying with for a while, but there are things about this country that I really do love, our sacred sites & countryside especially.

im just afraid the people in these places would be a bit weird... Imagine living with a bunch of crazy and paranoid people. Thats not to say they are all like that, but you know what im saying... I'd prefer a bungalow on a beach though :) Without having to work, and unlimited supplies of food, drinks and stuff to smoke. Aww... paradise.

Thanks everyone. :)

I had overlooked that Survival forum; so much variety here, which is good.

Having checked in there I am now more concerned about the best place to be in preparation for 2012 than simply finding a community!

I feel that after the shift occurs, the world is going to return to a more tribal way of life anyway. In time, the Earth will be very beautiful again, but things are going to be pretty awful before this happens. :(

And d young, yes, you have a point too! I have lived with alternative sort of people once before, and things were not always great! :o

How about we make a donate box and save up $5,000,000 for an island off the coast of South America? Build our own little community.

I wish!

If I ever become a millionaire - mark my words - I'll buy one and everyones invited haha :P

I'll be king, and you can all think I'm doing you all good but secretly I'll be dumbing you all down, I'll start up my own religion worshipping the sun but I'll personify the sun and make you worship that instead. Mwuhahaha!

Then I'll create an army in the name of peace, and segregate you all based on Race and Gender.

Just kidding (after the I'll be king paragraph anyway :P)

I have been there a couple of times, and tbh I wouldn't want to live there, not the sort of community I would want to bring up kids in either, things may have changed there now as not been for a good few years, but they were always getting raided by ol bill for drugs.....

Hey, do you have to pay rent for these places?

Obviously I don't want to join a cult type one but one that is really relaxed sounds pretty darn interesting.

stayed at this place a few years back similar to lydia's place but its mostly for workshops etc but still awesome welsh mountain scenery washing in the stream the sheep piss in but didnt care lol :D
this place in italy is an established community damanhur they where into time travel stuff years back ? wtf !!time err anyway they have a good community of artists and have their own currency and trade with the outside world they have part of the settlement built into a mountain as well .
http://www.kindredspirit.co.uk/articles/3308_time_travel.asp
http://www.damanhur.info/en/html/home.asp
so there are alternatives out there , similarly i have firends who have land in portugal and france and it is cheaper and a bit less estricting there you can do a lot more with your own land than you can here and it is feasable to do abroad at the mo despite rising prices but if you want to get out in the foothills etc and live off the land it is possible :D

I know it from my raving days:D best psychedelics were picked up from people there, also a lot of free parties were around that area, and still some going on these days so you can imagine what sorts are still living there. They also didn't get on great with the locals because of this....
