A description of the movie if nothing else.
Since it cannot be streamed I'm gonna assume that the study were conducted with relatively young smokers (20-40yrs). So the classic saying applies here perfectly, todays weed is not what it used to be.(also people are starting to smoke before or just after their teens (peak of neural development).
Today its all about %of thc, the more the better its like a cock size contest. You get it ranging up to 30+ and in very rare cases 40+ (guy was caught making thc crystals (the plant was producing so much thc that it was shedding it in crystal form)). When you look back a couple decades ago, the most potent weed arround was somewhere between 5-15% tops and had a good CBD (cannabinoid) precentage, almost equal to thc percentage.
The chinese in earlier times used the kind of weed with very high CBD percentage and relativeley low thc (mainly indica), as it is the cannabinoids that contain the most of beneficial effects for the body. Since people found out what makes you high in weed, we have been selectively breeding the pot plant for its potency to get one stoned, rather for its medical potential...
In conclusion... Weed has been transformed to somewhat of a monster that can leave you shaking for hours (dont get me wrong I <3 weed), but the draw backs are somewhat obvious. You cant take a seemingly harmless and beneficial plant, subject it to human experiments for so long (random people have been modifying the strains with chemicals and very selective breeding) and expect the same result....you gain, you loose, its the same with the wild foods which much more nutrition, than their big, ripe, juicy and sweet farm-land counterparts.
If you gonna smoke, try to stick with something tried and tested, preferably for generations, the kind of, which dosnt make you resistant to its high. Preferably the strains thc levels shouldnt be above 13% and aim for as high CBD count as possible. (im no expert at this, but some of this just has to be true :P)

The ratio's of current to previous generations of that plant is mentioned in the movie.
To clarify I am asking for comments on the movie if anyone can actually view it. This thread isn't a research project into picking up weed or not =P.
And congrats Leoo: Your assumptions are pretty much exact ^-^.
Edit: A google search of "the nature of things downside of high" leads to several torrent links of the show for those who have the desire to watch it outside of Canada.
I would also like to add:
It is a drug industry, no matter legal or not. This implies that the people risking their lives or making the profit dont have the best intentions for you. We all know that a plant, no matter how magical, is just a plant. When you feed it fertilizers made from god knows what (organic and natural ones cost a lot), when you spray the plants for mites and other pests, when you spray them to protect from bigger predators (such as rabbits etc.), when you miss some mold, when you dry the buds in a dusty room... and on and on it goes.
Since it is a drug business, you can never know what procedures your buds underwent; scary stuff.
Theres a big difference for me, toking on some organic, gown by a friend etc. compared to the one smuggled in the cars exhaust pipe :D
Be a demanding consumer... or better yet, grow your own. I just happen to completely disagree with the goverment regarding this issue.
