Giving people power over others is a highly unnatural state to put them in. This is why when it happens they so often develop pathological behavior, like these high school security guards.

How often do you hear "I used to love working with this guy, but now he's been promoted he hardly speaks to me. He's changed! He's not the same person!" He is the same person, but he's been made mentally sick by living in this unnatural lifestyle. Humans evolved in small tribal groups where everyone was equal and the chieftan was usually elected and would only remain in charge so long as he earned the people's trust. Since we moved into cities we're effectively like the owl that's made to stay awake during the day or the shark that's forced to eat muesli. It's not natural! No wonder we develop these pathologies!

At my hospital nearly all the worst crimes have been committed by the security guards. One of them stole millions of pounds worth of computers, another bootlegged beer and whisky to the patients. A few years ago there was an incident where a bunch of security guards attacked a female emergency patient and forced her into the road grit bin. They told her "Nobody will believe you! It's your word against ours!" Luckily it was caught on CCTV (It's not often I'm glad of CCTV!). One of the guards used to be a porter like me and he used to bully me when I was on his shift as a young porter, new to the hospital. So jobs which give people violence and power do corrupt, but they also attract corrupted people.

They used to just have a uniform in our hospital, now they wear body armour! This is symtomatic of the fear paradigm that's trying to take over. It wasn't long ago that policemen only wore uniforms. Now they sometimes wear military-style helmets and flak jackets.
