I'm about to watch a programme on BBC 2 Wales called Is Everything We Know About the Universe Wrong? The blurb says it's 'investigating the discovery of what is ominously being called 'dark flow'.

I've never heard of this and think it could be interesting. Does anyone else out there know anything about it?

Don't watch TV, that's the best thing to do...

I just left the room when the show was starting, as they are espousing nothing new. many of the ideas on there have been floating around with certain scientists for nearly thirty years, maybe more, albeit on the fringe of physics. Ultimately, if everything we know about the universe is wrong, it only confirms that we know nothing about it anyway. So anything they have to say is theoretical at best.

Seems that it's just a programme about what cosmetologists make up when the universe doesn't behave how they expected it to so we have dark matter that is invisible, and now also dark energy that comes from nowhere and no-one understands it and it reproduces itself as well. No doubt this is how it's all leading up to dark flow.

What a waste of my time!!

That is soooo right. Watching this programme really made me laugh cos I was thinking exactly that. Just a bunch of no doubt intelligent people who nevertheless do not have a clue. We just don't know enough and that's that, though they can theorise all they want. :)

I rather admire people who spend their lives just looking at "stuff" because it fascinates them and trying to fit theories and observation together.

Ohh infinite universes - how amazingly amazing.

Oh it's amazing all right. To be honest if I spend too long thinking about it, it blows my mind!! :)

Oh yeah, ruminating over stuff can get so intense, and by the time you've STARTED making sense of it, you've pretty much driven yourself insane. :)

Nothing ever happens in contradiction of nature, or the universe, only what little we think we know of it.

Typical conspiracy theorists, an outrageous theory of other dimensions and infinite universes is all the rage but when it science realises that it may be true, the CT community drops it like a hot brick!:D

Ye I watched it too, started off about the big bang theory fails after a fraction of a second because the background radiation should be in clumps and not even as it is today then some guy was on about an expansion theory which was tagged on to explain this, then theres not enough matter in the universe to explain the motions of stars in galaxies etc so they came up with a mathematical formula for dark matter which is undetectable to account for it then they had to tag on dark energy etc etc, it got more confusing and ridiculous as it went on, left me thinking they'dve been better off abandoning the big bang theory altogether instead of trying to patch it up like it was some kind of microsoft Operating system.

:p :D first time a reptilian has made me laf. Totally agree. Was arguing with me mate about the latest ball behind the moon they don't want us all to know about and the dark side of the moon pfffffff. Just WOULD NOT listen to reason. Or the fact any pleb can get a reasonable telescope and see. Ah no
not on the DARK SIDE that's where the Aliens are.

Dear lord.

A point very well made. :)
