Girl killed in Wii Remote mix-up
A girl has been killed after picking up a loaded gun, apparently mistaking it for a Wii Remote gun-style controller.
Three year-old Cheyenne Alexis McKeehan from Wilson County Tennessee died from a single self-inflicted shot to the abdomen from a .380 calibre semi-automatic pistol. The loaded firearm had been left on the coffee table in the living room of the girl’s house, after her stepfather thought he had heard a prowler outside.
According to the child’s mother, Cheyenne had been playing a Wii game that uses a gun peripheral - not one manufactured or approved by Nintendo (seen in the picture, underneath the handgun used in the shooting) - shortly before the accident occurred. The youngster was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Wilson County Sheriff Terry Ashe is investigating the case, although has not yet brought any charges relating to this tragic incident.

Er... I think it's more to do with a loaded firearm being left within the reach of an infant actually.
The father is an idiot.

My exact thoughts
I see children run for the remote the minutes its left unattended so I can understand her interest in the game control
IMO the father needs to be brought up on charges

This is disgusting. I always knew that the wii remote was dangerous especially when safety precautions have not been taken or overlooked. How many children have been injured by the remote that turns into a lethal projectile when not correctly strapped on. And now the life of a toddler has been taken by careless use of a controller. There should be an immediate product recall until safety issues have been addressed. Nintendo have nothing in mind but profits and no concern for the safty and lives of its end users which are mainly children.
My cousin poked herself in the eye with the stick from a DS and is now blind in one eye.

Exactly, who leaves a loaded gun on the table?!

Yes I realise she picked up the gun - and I suppose she might have done that had it not looked similar to the wii one.... but all the same, I ask you,
it still seems loony letting a 3 year old play with that sort of stuff.
Extremely careless to have left a firearm in a childs reach.

Thats not the biggest mistake here, why was the inept stepfather leaving a REAL gun on the table? Sure he gave the excuse he thought someone was outside but still, totally ridiculous!
And guns should remain legal? thats insane!
Where i come from if a child had mistaken something on the table for a gun the most dangerous thing there wouldve been a banana :)

Make guns against the law and the only people who will have them are law enforcers and law breakers.

Bad parenting is at fault here not guns.

In the words of Eddie Izzard; "They say guns don't kill people, people do. But I think the gun helps".
It's really tragic, but you can't blame nintendo: they didn't even make the gun addon for the controller, and if they had it would have looked a hell of a lot less like an actual gun, and a lot more like a childs toy.

Charge the father with STUPIDITY!!
charge the idiot with murder by reason of depraved indifference, and maybe let the jury argue it down to manslaughter...

I agree.
Yeah ok people have been injured by the wii remote in some cases, but its human stupidity... if people dont strap it on to their hands and it flies off and hits someone then thats their fault.
People like to single out the games industry but people get hurt using all sorts of things. Bicycles? How many people dont wear helmets and bomb around on them.
The wii controller is safe so long as it is used sensibly, like everything else.
Btw im not saying this incident was the little girls fault, not at all, it was the stepfather leaving a gun on the table.

I said its the second infants death concearning third party, cheapo toys that I have heard of in the last month, that is a fact. Iam not suggesting the step father is not responsible am I. There is no prize for figuring out a child should not have easy access to a firearm.

I'm just waiting for people to jump on this for gun control. My rights shouldn't be taken away because of another persons actions. I'm not going to judge because when you have kids your mind slips sometimes I have poured my orange juice in the baby bottle this morning thinking I picked up a glass. The stress, and lack of sleep sometimes can get to you especially with a three year old, but for something as serious as a loaded gun out I would not forget. My suggestion for a three year old would be a Vtech System, Gamecube, or Gameboy Advance with only kid games with limited play time. People love their kids, but there comes a time we all need a break especially if you don't have people in the family helping you. The games are still fun for that age I always thought Wii is to much for younger kids. With my kids a Wii would be lucky to last a month at my house. I don't like the fact you have to move all the time with it either.

Yes its pretty sad when I'm out on the road to see a young persons life end simply because they didn't wear a helmet that day. Should we ban motorcycle usage no. Yes the child should have been watched more carefully but sometimes things happen thats learning, and life. Hopefully after these accidents people are more cautious about what they are doing. To bad her life had to end so early.:(

But it doesn't concern the toy.
It's got nothing to do with the toy.
Kids pick everything up.
The idiot father is the problem.

Strange, I would have thought he'd have taken the gun with him to investigate what he thought was a prowler, not leave it behind
Very sad story :(

Has discernment died. This is a bullshit news "story". There I even placed it in speach marks, as well as, in bold. It is a story, its made up! The media lies and guess what, they have been doing it to us, our whole lives! Its a fake item of news. A Psy-op designed to trigger a NLP patsy, into following any number of Mind CONtrol programs.

here's another thought...guns are pretty heavy, how cd a 3 yr old pick it up, aim it accidntally at herself rather than tv, then pull the trigger? ok 'hair trigger'- but by a tiny 3 yr old's finger?????

For real. Did the police and media just accept that story?
