Although many people consider the skull to be a symbol of human mortality, many others think its an evil, satanic symbol. Personally I think it is not an evil symbol.

What do other people feel on the matter?

The Cluster by the Pond — 3
The Winged Death's Head
The crown, or upper portion of the stone, holds pictorial representations of spirits. One of the most common representations is the skull, or death's head, often pictured with wings. Early representations tend to portray skulls with empty eye sockets and rows of teeth. Later representations — sometimes called a soul effigy — became more cherubic, and some even angelic. The symbolic significance of these pictures is a matter of dicussion. At its simplest, the skull portrays death. The addition of wings may suggest the soul's migration and a resurrection; or the spirit that flies from the body, leaving death. http://www.oldburialhill.org/pond/images_pond/99.04.21_007_186a.jpg Mrs. Malcom (1762) http://www.oldburialhill.org/graphics/spacer_clear.gif http://www.oldburialhill.org/pond/images_pond/99.04.21_010_383a.jpg Mary Lattimer (1681) http://www.oldburialhill.org/pond/images_pond/99.04.21_031_383.jpg Christopher Lattimore (1690) http://www.oldburialhill.org/pond/images_pond/99.04.21_021_383.jpg Samuel Meritt http://www.oldburialhill.org/pond/images_pond/99.04.21_027_383.jpg James Meritt (1713)

Maybe it's natural too have a little fear of skulls because it reminds us of death.

Guessing here, some weird type rituals involving skulls and trying to contact the spirit/soul of the deceased skull owner. Which in certain cultures is perfectly normal to them.

I love skulls and have done for years. I have a lot of decorative skulls of various styles and sizes all around my house . Safe to say I have a bit of a thing for them , and don't find them at all evil, satanic or macabre.

To me the skull symbolizes who we really are inside , our true selves , a sign that underneath the veneer of our worldly personalities we are all the same .

Surely something can only be negative if that's the meaning you want to attach to it.

What do peole think of the moral angle of the symbol?

I guess it might appear evil due to its nature as a symbol of transition between life and death but in some ways that is a good thing

Skulls are beautiful. :)

I always found it ironic how skulls got a bad rap but we all have them inside us just below the skin....

In the pursuit of Truth and Awakening we sometimes forget that 'evil' is a very important, and human, part of our being....without it we would cease to exist.

There are many symbolic explanations for the skull. Here is just one exoteric meaning. Momento Mori. Reminders of death or our mortality. Here is a famous painting by Claesz.

I notice it seems to feature in some of the art associated with Rennes le Chateau as well. It is also the place of crucifixion

The skull is a symbol of nothingness. Such a state can not exist.
All we know is data on the brain including the brain,so it cant be there.
This implies that we do not exist,we are nothing ,hence the Skull.
The skull is a symbol of nothingness.

The number 22 comes to mind.

The Skull

At the summit of the vertebral column is the skull. The skull is of an oval shape. It is wider behind than in front. The bones it is comprised of are flattened or irregular, the only exception is the mandible. These bones are immovably jointed together. The cranium lodges and protects the brain and consists of eight bones and the skeleton of the face, fourteen:

Skull, 22 bones Cranium, 8 bones Occipital.
Two Parietals.
Frontal.
Two Temporals.
Sphenoidal.
Ethmoidal.

Face, 14 bones Two Nasals.
Two Maxillæ.
Two Lacrimals.
Two Zygomatics.
Two Palatines.
Two Inferior Nasal Conchæ.
Vomer.
Mandible.
