CLIMATE scientists yesterday stunned Britons suffering the coldest winter for 30 years by claiming last month was the hottest January the world has ever seen.
The remarkable claim, based on global satellite data, follows Arctic temperatures that brought snow, ice and travel chaos to millions in the UK.
At the height of the big freeze, the entire country was blanketed in snow. But Australian weather expert Professor Neville Nicholls, of Monash University in Melbourne, said yesterday: “January, according to satellite data, was the hottest January we’ve ever seen.
http://images.dailyexpress.co.uk/img/dynamic/1/285x214/160556_1.jpg
“Last November was the hottest November we’ve ever seen. November-January as a whole is the hottest November-January the world has seen.” Veteran climatologist Professor Nicholls was speaking at an online climate change briefing, added: “It’s not warming the same everywhere but it is really quite challenging to find places that haven’t warmed in the past 50 years.”
His extraordinary claims came after the World Meteorological Organisation revealed 2000 to 2009 was the hottest decade since records began in 1850.
But UK forecaster Jonathan Powell, of Positive Weather Solutions, said: “If it is the case and it is borne out that January was the hottest on record, it is still no marker towards climate change.
“It’s all part of a cyclical issue and nothing should be read too deeply into that.
“It’s been the coldest for 30 years in Britain but we predicted that and climate change always tends t o throw up anomalies. It’s all in line with predictions and I won’t be sold on climate change at all. The data is either faulty or manufactured to make it look like it shouldn’t.”
The Met Office yesterday revealed it would re-examine 150 years of world temperature records to restore faith in its data in the wake of a number of high-profile blunders dubbed “climategate”.

Depends on what part of the world your from, we are not all suffering from the big freeze. The summer down in Melbourne has been colder than usual thankfully, though last years summer was extreme and you could forgive people for thinking it was part of 'global warming'. Though Perth has experienced a summer hotter than average and Adelaide had a week or more of temps in the high 30's to early 40's.
The article doesn't make sense, so maybe he was talking about Australia in particular, so maybe this news website has mistaken his comments.

To be fair, this is an Australian scientist saying this from a country that has its summers/winters reversed.

The Met Office yesterday revealed it would re-examine 150 years of world temperature records to restore faith in its data in the wake of a number of high-profile blunders dubbed “climategate”.
Just how are they going to do that when Professor Phil Jones has thrown the raw data away??
SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.
It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.

Anyway yeah... they can keep saying "hottest ever" every year, it just doesn't change the fact that the seasons are still happening and winter is still just as cold as ever.

Quite the jokers, ridiculous climate-scaremonger assholes talking rubbish as usual. Here in Ireland, it has been the coldest winter I can remember in 35 years, and apparently (so say the Met Office) one of the coldest in over 100 years. Science-monkeys are making themselves out to be the fools they are though; so all is right with the world, of course...:rolleyes:

How dare this supposed climate scientist insist its the hottest January ever?
They only know recorded temperatures, and therefore this is the hottest January in the arctic since they have been recording temperatures there.
Now pray tell how long have they been recording temperatures in the arctic?..Under 100 years i would guess. 100 years is a blink of an eye in terms of world history.

Though today we have warm winds from the south, so that's why it's warmer than normal.

CRU data-cooking: recipe exposed!
Thanks to Eric Raymond, famous computer guru and leader of the open-source movement, at ESR, we can see what those sophisticated climate modelers were doing. They’ve found the code from the leaked files, and Eric’s comment is:
This isn’t just a smoking gun, it’s a siege cannon with the barrel still hot.
http://joannenova.com.au/globalwarming/graphs/climategate/artificial-corrections.gif
Here’s the code. The programmer has written in helpful notes that us non-programmers can understand, like this one: “Apply a very artificial correction for decline”. You get the feeling this climate programmer didn’t like pushing the data around so blatantly. Note the technical comment: “fudge factor”.
; Apply a VERY ARTIFICAL correction for decline!!
;
yrloc=[1400,findgen(19)*5.+1904]
valadj=[0.,0.,0.,0.,0.,-0.1,-0.25,-0.3,0.,- 0.1,0.3,0.8,1.2,1.7,2.5,2.6,2.6,$
2.6,2.6,2.6]*0.75 ; fudge factor
if n_elements(yrloc) ne n_elements(valadj) then message,’Oooops!’
The numbers in a row, in the [ ] brackets, are the numbers the data are to be altered by. If there were no adjustments, they’d all be zero. It’s obvious there is no attempt to treat all the data equally, or use a rigorous method to make adjustments. What could their reasons be?
East Anglia Data Adjustments
In 1900-1920: “All thermometers working accurately”.
In 1930: “Stock market crash and global depression causes artificial inflation in temperatures. Corrected, using inverted Dow Jones index until 1940″.
1940: “Due to WWII, briefly, thermometers work again”.
1945: “Artificial rise due to Nagasaki/Hiroshima effect. Compensated.”
1950 – 2000: “Quality control at thermometer factories must be going to pieces. Thermometers are just reading too low, and it kept getting worse until 1970. Instead of demanding the factories get it right, simply adjust the data. Still not enough. Quality control puts air-conditioning exhaust vents close to thermometers in the field, to further counteract apparent factory problem.”
Ladies and gentlemen, I’m seriously concerned. All along I’ve said the world was warming. Now I’m not so sure. How would we know? How does anyone know in the light of all that data fudging?
That hacker or leaker of info deserves glory and thanks.

Well to support hadabusa, it does mention in the article that 'it’s not warming the same everywhere'. Just because there is a big freeze in Europe and North American doesn't mean it's colder than usual everywhere else. Also I'm not supporting global warming, for those who like to point the finger.
The Earth's weather patterns change all the time.

The Earth's weather patterns change all the time.
Indeed weather patterns change all the time so why the panic?
When I was a child you set your watch by the spring afternoon storms in Florida, now it is the dry time of year. These things run in cycles. Also, the hurricane frequency rate raised in the late 90's after a low period of about 30-35 years - the rate decreasd around the time of my birth. I had never before in my life experienced so many and harsh storms because they simply didn't happen with such ferocity and frequency before in my experience, but the old folks and local meteorologists agreed about history.
History tells us that before that previous high hurricane rate that ended around the time of my birth in the mid 60s, there was a calmer period and before that there were terrible and frequent storms - the frequency rate fluctuates.
Some people rely upon and wish to capitalize on short memories, people who lived in the past who could teach us the true history that are now dead and media panic to push cap and trade.
