Watch this ;)

You might think making games is all about putting 40 percent awesome in a box, throwing in a pinch of zazz and calling it a SKU, but that's not true. Games, you may have noticed, are all around us, all the time.

In the video below, Carnegie Mellon professor and ex-imagineer Jesse Schell lays out a vision of the future in which our lives become, essentially, one big RPG.

Awesome thread, thanks for this.

I've always thought this, ever since playing FF7 as a kid, with the 'experience' and the dramatic twists and turns, emotional ups and downs, a big story/game. We're living it!

You notice a lot of the stories in these RPGs match the current events we're going through I think. Plus spirit/energy/magic all play a part in the characters conciousness.

Like with the story of FF7 where everyone is trapped in Midgar, a big concrete city, with the slums/poor people at the bottom and the Government/Rich elite up the top. Once you break free from that, you're in the vast world, discovering what is really going on, a bit like an awakening we're having.

I mean FF7 even mentions people going back to the 'lifestream' when they die and at the end of the game, just as a massive meteor is about to hit the planet (which was summoned by Sephiroth (someone who uses evil for his own gain)) The lifestream softens it's impact and makes it become apart of the Earth after you defeat and kill off Sephiroth. Amazing stuff.

Thus the planet is restored and starts over.

It's like our situation now, a big corrupt, evil entity/group have taken over the planet and it needs to be removed before they create a doomsday for us all and start their own evil deeds again.

It means 'Role-Playing Game' Lauren, like as in something like Dungeons & Dragons (you may have heard of this famous RPG) where you play a 'character' (your personality/appearance etc) with a 'character class' (a profession, like fighter, or priest etc) and interact with other characters on adventures and quests. Hence, the analogy with (real) life. :)

Oh right, well thanks for informing me. :)

My answer to the original question would be yes. There is a similar thread here: http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96966

I would say RPGs are like life. In that we imitate god he doesant imitate us. Notice how computer chipboards look like tiny cities?

The reports of many in altered states allude to our existence being like computer code.

Not to mention that everything is divided between male and female 1's and 0's, we communicate via the ethernet, and background processes are called daemons, among many other things. Unix ("eunuchs") nerds have an esoteric sense of humor.

This is this occult symbolic idea behind the movie 'Avatar' -

as explained in this thread: (http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95835)

This movie is about a person inhabiting the body of another alien being...

The premise of the movie makes me think that the manipulators of this reality are creating movies to clue us in on our own reality. The Matrix was one very good example but this is going as far as introducing the concept of inhabiting 'alien beings' who are just conveniently humanoid and magical looking to us... and role playing a life as if it is some video game.

This is the same mechanism as reincarnation. Entering bodies out of free will in order to be 'heros'.

I don't believe that life will 'become' a role playing game, I believe it already is the most intense 'role playing game' imaginable, one that we log in to for a very extended period of time called 'life'. We log out every night to go to sleep, and at death. It's that simple.

Totally man, that game really is a masterpiece. The music in that game is just something else. Truly magical...

Love it, great observations 77.

Perhaps when we get further than string theory etc...matter itself will be presented in ones and zeroes.

I found it interesting that the Spirits Within movie was based upon Gaia principles. Have you guys seen Advent Children?

Speaking of RPGs, if anyone ever wants to game over the internet, I'd be happy to run a game using any system, though the easiest for the internet would be a hack of adnd I designed just for playing on the internet. There's a program called gametable that's great for playing online since it has dice macros and a little map program.
