I would agree with you, but at the moment the movement is open to any and all, of religious denomination or atheist...the potential to block the membership of many, many men and women is there if the movement becomes a religion.
Besides, in my experience, as soon as religion becomes organised, the whole shebang is open to interpretation and corruption of ideals.
Shouldn't religion be a personal matter?
You're quite right though...it would solve a lot of problems.

Always good to think outside the box!
Hmmm ... two issues spring immediately to mind;
1. by subscribing to this definition, does it mean you validate the authority?
2. would this then risk the vehement opponents labelling it a 'religious cult'? ... which takes me immediately to the travesty of Waco.
It is certainly worthy of exploration, but is it achieving the desired goals?
Or merely avoiding some obstacles by exchanging them for others?
... but at least some one is thinking outside the box :)

Nice idea scott, have you a link that says for certain that to make a religion all that is needed is for 10,000 people?
i seem to recall at the the last census that there was some talk of people putting 'Jedi' into the 'religion' section of the document and that 'Jedid' could become an actual religion if 10k people said they were Jedi's..... and that such was an urban myth.
i feel that there would perhaps need to be a common goal and set perameters in place to begin with, and that a belief in a 'blessed soul' at the very least, if not 'A' God, would need to be a requisite - religion needs a fugure head, a focal point, a core and essential belief.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2001/10/09/jedi_knights_achieve_official_recognition/
"Jedi Knight is not officially recognised as a religion.
However, looking at it another way, neither is any other religion. We imagine there are a few followers of Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism but the National Statistics office will not provide recognition of them officially. It's job is simply to identify the number of people in the UK that have given a particular answer to a particular question."
Good idea, but I don't think it'[s suitable. I thought the whole idea was to be a FREE MAN, not subscribing to particular beief system.
FREEMAN to me is about educating myself as to the workings of various external systems that I find myself having to operate in, in order that I can make informed choices with a full understanding of their consequences.

Do organised religions not need to 'register' with the government in order to be eligible for tax exemption ?
On a serious note ;
I believe that very act of registration hands over control to the PTB
Which is probably the reason why organised religion is towing the line
Christian churches register with the diocese for example - who pull the strings
Basically the community pay for the churches to be built and for the upkeep of them
If any structural work or repair needs doing to the church - the diocese must evaluate (at a cost) and then they decide who gets the contract for the work
The community also pay the vicar and his fat pension
Then the diocese can decide not to replace a vicar in a parish and then they claim ownership of the church / vicarage etc and very often sell them off - keeping all of the proceeds for themselves and the community get diddly squat in return
All sounds a bit familiar this doesnt it ?

this is how put on huge parties here in west wales as"pagans"on pagan festivals unobstructed and above the statutes, its a human right you know
its been going on for years and years. the biggest problem is the self interest type people that in truth dont really want change they just want reasons to fight for the "next cause" and im afraid i suspect THIS MOVEMENT has plenty of those.

No; now I disagree with you, scottmurray.
I see your point and I think I know the type you mean, but I don't see any here.
If this 'fight' gets out into the open, it risks tearing modern civilisation, as we know it, to shreds.
The movement seems to be growing slowly (it's no wonder; it's not a pretty prospect, tearing what we know apart and starting again) and there are many with a vested interest in keeping things just the way they are.
This particular movement, in my humble opinion is not / will not fight the 'next cause' but the cause.
All the more reason to remain honourable, and stick to the immutable, (God-given, if you wish), fundamentals of law.

Isnt this where the Census comes into play?
If they get 10,000 or more people saying that they are FMOTL as a religion then it will have to be recognised as one, the only thing is... who is going to be the leader :D

Then who do you worship? Thats the idea of a religion.
I worship every thing that is and what intended it to be and the intent that intended that intent..
so i suppose conciseness is my leader.
how can my religion have a leader if every one was intent on leading themselves..
