I think you are wrong and parroting 2tuff. The Knights of Malta are powerful but when the Queen came to Malta it was she who hosted the Commonwealth Conference. The knights are recognised by her, they don't control her, it is much the other way around. Same deal with the Knights of St George and I know someone who is a friend of one and he is a German baron. He's not super powerful or anything, he does not run a great deal and is more your typical aristocrat who spends a lot of time doodling about in a massive inherited mansion with a garden that is about a mile long. They get a lot of favours from their title, they get invited to this and that but they don't run things. He's too disorganised to run much. I know you might find this all hard to believe but that is what it is really like in Malta and I know their aristocracy quite well, my girlfriend is one of them. She's no better off than any of us though but when the Queen visits she gets an invitation. OK some are wealthier and doctors and judges and that sort of thing but they don't own trillions of dollars, far from it.

yep that may be true of course there are members of the order who are there because of family lineage who in the past where granted favour by the elite
