This comic character is now no longer allowed to fire his pea shooter, or beat up Walter the softy.

Apparently, most children's comics have now been toned down by the PC brigade.

Asterix the Gaul is no longer allowed to swallow his magic potion, because it can be seen like taking drugs.

I have thousands of old Beanos and Dandys from the early 80s in my mum's roof, which for some reason were never thrown away, I'll have to let my kids read them instead.

No firing pea shooters or beating up Walter the Softy? That's what Denis the Menace was all about. Are Denis and Walter going to go on Common Purpose training courses for children instead in the new PC Beano?

What's the point.

Dennis the ninny.

Every little aspect of our lives has to come under the control of the facist politically correct elite.

to be fair, beating up walter the softy was never very nice. encouraging children to beat up people weaker than them. pc brigade or not, its still not cool.

I don't think it encouraged any such thing.

I loved reading dennis the menace and I never beat anyone up in my life.

Dennis normally got his come-uppance.

Political correct bollocks being forced on us in everything we do.

Dennis the Menace has been a part of childhood in the UK for decades!!

So now, some ponce in a shirt and tie, and probably a degree in "sociology" , is saying that he's a bad influence.

What a load of crap. This is an even bigger travesty than that brief period where they tried to 'age' Dennis a few years back.

i'm guessing none of you read the beano anymore? i was a member of the dennis the menace fan club complete with furry gnasher badge, i don't care what happens to him now. comics are always changing, its a fact of life. he did well not to of changed that much in decades so really whats everyone bitching about? good for you guys that it never encouraged you to beat up softies, i don't think i said it encouraged people, but its subtle programming that boys who like flowers etc are pansys. dennis got his cumupance yeah but it never stopped him terrorising walter. bullies and the like always make out as if its harmless fun, wonder what walters side of it was like?
dennis is all grown up now and is an alcho living in a tower block on bash street beating up on his wife, whereas walter commited suicide after dennis set fire to his teddy bears picnic.
bleak.
anyways, i digress, nobody really cares its just an excuse to bash the pc brigade. who 99% of the time talk shit, but theres always that 1% that they're right about. dennis the menace was a bully. simple.

There's nothing new in this though. They have been toning down comic characters for a long time. A couple of decades ago, Dennis was beaten every week by his dad with a slipper and the Bash Street Kids usually got the cane. Those things stopped happening in the Beano long ago.

My favorite all time Beano character.

Outrageously politically incorrect of course.

Who wouldn't want a mini army at their fingertips.

I loved General Jumbo (not in that way).

Check put macho man!:D

Talk about programmed.

I don't give a fuck about the beano. The best thing you can say about it is that it's marginally more worthy of theink and paper it takes to make it than the Daily Mail.

Many many better comics (and books) for kids and adults than that crap.

As for beating up on pansies for "a laugh". When I have a son, should he want to do ballet, or flower arranging, or play the flute, or cut hair, design clothes or ANYTHING that might attract the antipathy of a little thug that thinks it's a laugh to beat him or victimise him, I will go round the the thug's house and beat the living crap out of his dad.

Any way I could. Fighting fair or not.

I hate macho dickheads that encourage the victimisation of young boys that want to be different.

fuck. the. beano.

I was reading Oor Wullie and the Broons as I recall.

But the Beano was and is shit and that is when I got a little bit older I loved reading Viz because it really took the piss out of how shit and crap and shite the Beano and the Dandy and all of that dross really was.

This is one of my all time faves.

The PC Brigade in the last 13 years along with the Labour government has turn the whole country into a feminine state blokes are now like big girls blouses and most women are harder than the men.
The whole country is a laughthing stock we couldn't punch pussey in todays world i reckon 1 German Panzer division would take the whole country out :)
Can you remember the early Bugs Bunny cartoons they took them off telly because there was alot of smoking in them and violence.

What? I guess Popeye is fucked as well. I don't see how the thing about Asterix can matter since those books are classics now - you can't mean someone is going to rewrite and redraw the stories, so I call BS on that one.

Who cares about Dennis The Menace? It's been shite for a couple of decades.

I know they have deleted smoking scenes from Tom Jerry cartoons made in the 40's and 50' s in the UK.

Of course the daily mail is a tabloid aimed at morons (which is why it gets amaralsright all excitable). The not-quite-as-shit daily telegraph is more explicit about what the mail mentions but nevertheless invents an imaginary "PC Brigade" as is its way -

"The main reason that Dennis looks different is because of the new animation series on CBBC," she said.

"It was felt we should have Dennis looking the same in the comic as he does on TV to stop people getting confused.

"We thought that a lot of people might not have seen Denis before seeing him on TV and if he looked different in the Beano comic then they might not realise it was the same."

"Dennis has had to comply with the rules of broadcasting and he is more creative in the tricks he gets up to now," he said.

"He is certainly not allowed to fire his catapult directly at someone any more - but he would be allowed to use it creatively. He is far more creative in the tricks that he gets up to now.

"There were scenes in the 1960s when he would walk down the street with windows that he smashed in buildings alongside him. He would not do that now.

Broadcasting rules already exist. Of course if the BBC did a new a cartoon or a new children's comic were released that depicted a child smashing windows with a catapult and beating people up, the daily mail would have no hesitation in portraying it as a symptom of collapsing moral standards if that's what they felt their readers would like to feel indignant about. Or maybe they'll run a story on violent computer games. They can easily push the buttons of those who consider themselves 'awake' or whatever bullshit and get them all indignant about some fucking anachronistic kid's comic, a rare survivor of a bygone age of comics. the dandy, whizzer and chips, for fuck's sake hotspur and eagle - it's the 21st fucking century. The era of kid's comics recycling stories that appealed in the 1950s is over.
Go read the walking dead (aimed at adults, but nowhere on any of my collected copies does it say not suitable for children) if you want a no holds barred comic book - fuck knows how they could put some of the stuff in there in the forthcoming TV series without the daily mail having kittens.

Isn't it rather pathetic how people who claim to be all above the MSM and shit are so easily manipulated by a tabloid?

As for Walter, wasn't he more of poncy no-it-all rather than an innocent victim? He neve came accross as being a likeable character to me.
