Someone I know recently piled on weight and was feeling tired and unwell and has been today diagnosed with this condition which they say is genetic.
Does anyone know of any other causes of this because I am fairly sure it isnt genetic.
For example would coming into contact with radiation cause it?
forgot to add ... is there any breakdown in statistics of particular health conditions throughout UK available online???

This could be a problem of 5th chakra. Try with crystal therapy using a quartz very closed to your thyroid.
In the same time test your hormones with TSH, FT3, FT4, HTG and anti-tyreoglobulin blood analysis.

Not sure if I have an underactive or overactive thyroid or neither but they do swell up quite badly after I eat a load of shit...
I think fasting is the only real way to set everything back to default. Read up on it.
As for temporary solutions, he might have a bad parasitic infection, at least I did when my thyroid was at it's worse. I took some herbal anti parasite tinctures and I was greatly relieved in just a week. Still, it was always there in the background and like I said, fasting is the only true way to get back to normality.

Thanks for that - she has been put on thyroid medication for life. Told it was genetic but I am not at all convinced about that as have been told same about another condition which my research shows a possible different cause (in that case vaccine). I am very wary of things they label genetic. Especially things of this nature.

Because of the thyroid's selective uptake and concentration of what is a fairly rare element, it is sensitive to the effects of various radioactive Isotope - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia of iodine produced by Nuclear fission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. In the event of large accidental releases of such material into the environment, the uptake of radioactive iodine isotopes by the thyroid can, in theory, be blocked by saturating the uptake mechanism with a large surplus of non-radioactive iodine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potassium_iodide#Role_of_potassium_iodide_in_radio logical_emergency_preparedness), taken in the form of potassium iodide tablets. While biological researchers making compounds labelled with iodine isotopes do this, in the wider world such preventive measures are usually not stockpiled before an accident, nor are they distributed adequately afterward. One consequence of the Chernobyl disaster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia was an increase in Thyroid cancer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia in children in the years following the accident. Thyroid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As an aside, the person as a child was caught out in the rain at school in an area of the UK which suffered fall-out from Chernobyl. Which is why I asked the radiation question but I am not sure whether that is the cause of her over active thyroid.

That's true....
Problems with chakras usually manifest as illnesses in the physical reality.
Although, I'm not sure how one can divert energies to a single place.
Anyone?........

My wife has a hyperthyroidism (Hashimoto thyroid) due to 5th chakra. She is using 3 cubes of quartz to balance this point. Hashimoto thyroid is a problem of hyperactivity of immunitary system without a real reason. This happen also with several allergies.

Out of interest has your wife ever reacted to iodine?
It is indeed interesting to note that in the UK people diagnosed with this condition get FREE PRESCRIPTIONS for the rest of their entire life for any illness, whether or not it is related to their condition. Call me a cynic - but that's just a tad too generous for me not to investigate further.

Iodate salt is not recommended for Hashimoto thyroid.
She is using EUTIROX

Hi, have you tried homeopathic remedies, or chinese herbalist? What about diet and detoxing. Has anyone suggested it might be candida? You can try, to see if things improve, nothing to lose and you may feel that at least your intention is to get well, and there is a possibility afterall. Nothing worse than feeling you have to live with something.
It could be multiple causes. Take sugar, caffeine, alcohol out of your diet. Try cutting all acidic producing things in your diet, eat lots of green leafy veges, and/or take spirulina, and drink herbal or black tea. Do you like Sushi? Try sauna or turkish bath to detox and exercise in the way you find enjoyable, even if only walking. Get some form of massage regularly if you can. Find out your blood type and research foods optimum/neutral to that type, avoid the ones which put your system under pressure to digest.
Find out if you have any allergies and see if your home or workspace contains anything stimulating to this. Try to get your body back in rhythm by establishing regular sleeping and eating patterns. Avoid stimulating food and drinks in the evening if they disrupt your sleep.
Look at your life and see where you feel unhappy, or have given up on something. Try to have a positive and optimistic outlook, by creating small realistic goals and feel good about attaining them. Do not listen to others' negative predictions for you. Just get in touch with your body and be aware of all small changes and what your thoughts are doing, can you notice a set of attitudes or words that run through your head on a regular basis?
You may want to keep a journal to help you. Try to stay off pharmaceuticals for the duration of the experiment...
Do some singing or toning sound into your throat chakra. Do this joyfully...
Good Luck.

Yes. Have you tried Armour? If you are in the UK you will have to import it, or find a private doctor who will prescribe it.
The drug companies would rather you didn't take it. They want to stuff you full of things which don't work.
I have Secondary Addison's Disease, where my adrenal glands don't work when they should because I don't produce ACTH, which is the hormome which stimulates the adrenal gland. It is very similar to hypothyroidism, and from my latest blood test results it looks like I don't produce TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) either, which gives me all the symptoms of hypothyroidism.
There is a genetic component to my condition, as I have 3 other family members who are the same BUT I think it was triggered by the TB vaccinations we had a teenagers. We were all fine up until then!
Also poor nutrition causes auto-immune problems which in turn can destroy the thyroid and other glands. Flouride in the water is another known cause.
Another more natural way of helping to support the thyroid is sea weed believe it or not. This will not be as affective as armour though.

Well seeing as Armour contains pork,il have to give it a miss as am a vegetarian, however i am going to try a detox fast of fruit and veg so hopefully il see some sort of change.
I havnt tried any homeopathic remedies, never seem to have the time.As for the sugar intake i have cut down quite alot including junk food which seems to make a difference at times.I have started drinking camomile tea with honey instead of coffee and tea, which helps as its sweet yet dosent require sugar, but it does seem to fill me up.

Tell you what, try this stuff, powdered Maca.
http://go-goji.co.uk/store/raw-organic-maca-powder-c-3.html
I have been using it for 4 days now. I have adrenal insufficiency as well as being hypothyroid, and my goodness it is changing a few things for me already. I fully intend to buy more once this batch has finished. I have abundant energy!!!! I am also eating goji berries which I got from the same place.
Maca actually affects the whole of the endocrine system, it is not a replacement for anything, but is said to stimulate the glands. I was sceptical about it, but as they say about the proof of the pudding! :D

Never heard of it I'm afraid.
I am a member of the Yahoo group thyroidpatientadvocacy (Thyroid Patient Advocacy-UK) It might be a good idea to join that group and raise the question there? I have used the search facility on the list and it didn't reveal any posts relating to it.
I have read of people curing their thyroid problem through eating raw foods
http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/index.php
I am trying this route myself, but won't know how well I am really doing until my next blood tests are done. I certainly have far more sustainable energy since I have been eating raw organic foods, but it has taken quite some time, and real persistance on my part. There were times when I almost gave up, but after almost a year of raw eating, I am starting to notice my good days are becoming very good days. However, my condition is far more complex than hypothyroidism as I have several glands which are underproducing or not producing. I can really testify that without addressing your nutritional typing, and going raw, taking tablets alone will probably not do you much good at all.
Certainly changing my eating habits has helped FAR more than the new age whackiness of a certain 'healer' (lurking on this forum)who diagnosed my illness as being as a result of:
where I live
my past experiences
bad entities lurking inside me
my spirit guides abandoning me
All negative and extremely damaging stuff.
When you are SO exhausted, at the point of collapsing and dying because the medical profession has badly let you down through G.P ignorance, you will listen to ANYONE who offers help.
Be very careful with anything involving glands. If you don't act on the condition effectively, you are in danger of the condition spreading to other parts of the endocrine system if the cause is auto-immune related, which mine is (check out the SV40 virus, deliberately introduced via the Polio vaccine - I have those antibodies present). The key is to boost the immune system in anyway you possibly can. Changing to a raw diet is a major part of supporting or even reversing such conditions. Research it thoroughly though as there are various raw veggies which can supress the thyroid, such as broccolli and spinach.
As for the person who claims my spirit guides had left me etc.... I think you are a very dangerous character. Something was looking after me, because my turning point came after a brilliant doctor discovered Addison's disease in my brother (who lives in an extremely beautiful part of the country). I collapsed in an Addisonian crisis whilst visiting my family, was taken to the same hospital as my brother attends and finally got the correct diagnosis of my condition. Had I NOT been there, who knows what would have become of me.

You could also experiment (in some cases) with "thyroid tapping." Gently tap the thyroid 10 times three times a day with your finger. You could try Googling 'thyroid tapping' for more info.
