The body of a 16-year-old Turkish girl has been discovered after being buried alive by relatives in an “honor” killing carried out as punishment for talking to boys.

Police discovered the body after receiving an anonymous tip.

The police was told that the girl was killed after a family council meeting, and had been buried under a chicken pen.

Police say that the girl had complained two months earlier that her grandfather beat her for talking to boys.

The girl was identified by her initials, and was said to have large amounts of soil in her stomach and lungs.

"The autopsy result is blood-curdling. According to our findings, the girl — who had no bruises on her body and no sign of narcotics or poison in her blood — was alive and fully conscious when she was buried," an unnamed expert said, Huffington Post reported.

Police have arrested her mother, father and grandfather who had reported her as missing.

Official figures indicate that more than 200 honor killings take place in Turkey each year.

Regardless of what we may think, there is a strong culture of discipline and honour in the middle East, which seems to strengthen the further East you travel, though from the way it is manifest, I would question their definitions of the above. It seems rather archaic to consider 'talking to boys' as a matter of honour. But, this is their culture, so be it.

i do not see though, under any circumstance, how murder can be justified.

Morals, ethics & tolerance go out of the window when people practice religion that teaches morals, ethics & tolerance....

Not sure where the threat of violence came from in the article, as it merely says the girl was talking to boys.

Clearly.

Not only religion makes people blind, but CONCRETE (low frequency) minds. It don't matter it's in Turkey or China or the US... there are these kind of people everywhere.

I am very close to Eastern cultures. Talking to boys is forbidden, as well as going alone on the streets without a male member of your family. Whoever established those literal rules in the first place should be forgiven for his sin. We can only pray and wish that all the horrendous things happening in our world stop once for all.

This is not culture, it's Barbaric.

I fail to understand why you say "so be it". I used to respect cultures but the more I look at them each one is taking away some sort of freedom. What right has anyone got to dictate who that girl (or anyone) can talk too, advise by all means but don't dictate and then punish.
