Fixed £80 penalty notice for dropping fag

Walking in Enfield town today dropped fag on the pavement, council officer came along and issued me £80 penalty. If i don't pay in 14 days they will prosecute me and keep records for 3 years.

WTF

This is getting absurd, no warning or anything. And the weird thing is that they only operate in shopping centre around Enfield town council. I work in this council area and didn't seen them anywhere.

What you think i should do ? :D

Don't live in Enfield but can illustrate a similar principle. Residents on our road have received letters from the council advising us to watch each other and report anyone who parks on the grass verges to the front of our houses - the council intends to take action against anyone found doing it.

Needless to add, we've all ignored the town hall Nazis and will carry on as appropriate. It doesn't harm anyone, doesn't obstruct the road or the pavement.

Besides ... how else will the Councils and Local Authorities recoup the millions they lost, when they played the financial markets and saw their IceSave accounts go belly up?
Let's also remember, they have increasing Common Purpose fees to pay ...

Enforcing the production of bio degradable filters would not make anyone the amount of money that this 'law' is set to achieve. If this has become a problem then eradication of the problem at source shows more intelligence than that of customer penalisation. It would save money but not make money.

IMO criminals are made to balance deficits.

If I've still got the letter I'll see if I can scan and post it. Have a feeling I threw it away though.

No notices went up about this but I know everyone got the same letter because I checked. And I'm pleased to report that everyone seems to have responded in the same way. If the council thinks that-

(a) we are going to police each other; and/or
(b) we are going to take any notice at all of such a ridiculous request about how to park

then they are in for a rude awakening.

Must say I found it refreshing to realise from this experience that people do not mindlessly follow edicts from on high.

Obviously people you're not related to ... or people who are known to be friends ... but a handful of 'witnesses' who will say they were there, saw the incident and it didn't happen.
