Is something I hear a lot, but not many people actually make up a plan to do anything. Mostly because they think to big, they want to the world changed and fixed by 7:30 so they don't miss eastenders. When they realise the undertaking involved most give up, with a few exceptions (Gandhi, Luther King Jr. etc). For the most part though change begins in small, tiny steps and so here is my idea to start a small snowball to roll.
Internet forums litter the internet, there are thousands if not millions of them, covering every subject; sports, cooking, television shows, arts and crafts, technology etc. etc. The majority of these forums contain an "off topic" forum, where people post things that do not have any relevance to the forums main discussions. My Idea is to simply for people to join a forum that discusses something that they are interested in, and in the off topic section post new stories that otherwise wouldn't be posted there. However there would have to be a few rules:
No batshit insane stuff (by the general public's standards of course).
No personal/religious rants.
No spamming dozens of threads (one story they'll read, 10 or 20 and they'll just be pissed off).
No spamming links to this or any other forums (this isn't an advertisement campaign, and besides most of the stuff here would turn people off).
So what do you post then? Simple stories that can be backed by various sources, like the scandals in the financial sector, politics, business, the social services, health sector etc. Basically the news that is printed but under reported. The idea is to give people a nudge a the direction where they are exposed to more facts than are printed in the sun, daily mail, on sky or bbc etc.
So what do you think, is this doable? If 20 people join 20 forums, and those forums on average have 200 members, and if only 1% of those 4000 people take something and begin to look beyond what is in front of them, is that worth it?
